Hello! I have a 4-5 month old cockatiel named Kiko. I live in Kitchener, ON, Canada.

I was contacting some vets near me to get a general idea of how much it costs to get a examination for the future. All of them had good reviews and the cheapest place charged $89 plus tax, and extra $ for medication and other things.

If anyone who lives in Kitchener or Ontario has taken their bird to the vet, how much did it cost you? How much did medication cost? Do you buy it from them or do they just prescribe it? I’m just trying to get a general idea

I certainly can't comment on what's available in Ontario, but one of my birds needs daily heart medication. There are online "pharmacies" that will ship you your meds after they clear it with your vet. It's much cheaper than buying from the vet.

Also, some of the local "people" pharmacies now handle pet meds. My son gets meds for his dog from Walgreen's or Walmart.

In either case, the vet needs to write a prescription.
