So I recently moved to Milwaukee in the east village. I moved here to become an activities director at a large nursing home. I am 23. Well Constance, my Chihuahua has adjusted just fine. But Lucy, my blue front is not adjusting so well to a studio. We have room for her cage and a play/perch area. I had to sell my dresser and stuff everything in the closet lol. But she seems to hate it. My landlord let me take her here because she never screams, she just yells "what?!" When I leave the room. But Lucy is getting feisty with my chihuahua and we're living in tight quarters. Welcome to the east village. But I've moved before and she has adjusted just fine. Is it because the studio is too small? Or is it that she has a new cage? Did I make too many changes for her too fast? Btw she is a 35 year old Amazon who hates change lol.

Well, I'm short on advice but long on admiration for your love and loyalty to your little family!
Yeah, I suspect all the changes just have her rattled. Hopefully she'll chill out.
Good luck in your new home and job!

When we first adopted Kiwi, we were in a studio. None of our subsequent apartments were much bigger either until this new place. He's never had issues with small spaces or changes though. I think it'll just be a bit of an adjustment period. If possible, try making sure she has her most favorite toys/perches/snuggle hut etc... (whatever she loves) in her cage during her adjustment period. Maybe offer some extra treats too so she'll form good associations with the changes.

If you plan to be in your studio for a while, now would be a great time to start harness training Lucy. Then come spring, she can go out with you on her harness or even fly around outdoors on a flight line:) That'll open up the amount of room she has to hang out in big time if she can safely go out and about with you!

Thank you for the advice. Yeah she is a little grumpy now, but her wooden blocks keep her happy enough. She doesn't like coming out of her cage right now, but hopefully that will change soon.

Consider a proper introduction of the new place! Take her on a Real Estate Agents tour of her new home. May sound a bit odd, but most Parrots are really not into that much change and a proper introduction (in this case a tour) can't hurt and can only help!

I do it every time something new shows up at our house.
