Hi guys,
New to the forum, was cruising the web looking for interesting things I could find for Wilbur, my caique. He's your typical clown and I am just smitten with him! He's probably average as far as caiques go but personally, I like to think he is unique. I've never heard of a parrot called a caique before him and did a lot of research before getting him. Since getting him, I worked hard on our bond which I believe is quite strong and have never been more proud of how he is growing up. He was about 6 months old when I first got him so we were both pretty new at this! Day 1, he bit my thumb so hard and drew instant gushes of blood. I put him in his cage and let us both settle down. After day 1, we used a perch to bring him out of the cage and worked with that while slowly bringing my hand closer with broccoli, carrots, and grapes on the side. We worked on that for a month or so before I was brave enough to enter his cage without the perch. In no time, he was looking forward to nap time every night! It was a long and educational road but it brought us both together when we were probably as scared as each other of this new situation. I am not new to birds as I have had my share of cockatiels and parakeets and even had a rainbow lory for some time but this guy is far different than any of those. He is a clown, can be demanding, gets cranky but hey, don't we all So that is my birdlife in a nutshell, I am glad I found this forum!
