I like large cages for birds, but large cages often come with wider than normal cage bar spacings. Wide cage bar spacings can be a trap for a bird if it manage to poke its head in between the bars.

I'm wondering what would be the maximum cage bar spacing to safely house a hawk-headed parrot?

Thanks,

I'm not that familiar with Hawk Heads, but aren't they pretty large birds? If you have concerns, I guess I'd try to find 3/4". Some companies like King's Cages can apparently make you a cage with whatever bar spacing you want. So they could make a large cage but put smaller bar spacing in for you.

I thought Hawk Head's were large, but I just looked it up and it said the average weight is 170 - 275 grams.. So smaller than an amazon?

I'm jealous!! I always wanted a Hawk Head, but I heard they have a wicked hormonal period. Where are you getting one? Do you have a picture?

I want more information pleeease :D

Oh, wow, I guess they are much smaller than I thought they were! That's quite a bit smaller than a zon (mine weighs 525gm).

What would be the widest bar spacing for an Amazon? My BFA weighs 338. She's in a very large cage right now. Has anyone heard of an amazon getting their head stuck?

I would think you could go to 1" with the zon. My Grey was in a cage with 1" before me with no issues. I have smaller spacing to keep my cat from reaching in.

Amazons seem to have pretty big heads. Now mine is larger than some Yellow Crowns, but looking at him I think I could easily use 1" or even a bit bigger. But, take a look at his weight compared to yours as he does seem like a pretty big boy. He is also a bit overweight though.

I am using 5/8", but boy if I didn't he or the cat would be injured by now. They play "terrorize" with each other every day now. I've come to realize Pete likes it as much as the cat does. He is instigating it at least half the time.
