Marley and the Rope Perch Monster...

So despite me getting all cross at the quakes yesterday, Marley is settling really well. It's now 4.45pm NZT and he arrived yesterday 10amish NZT. He's eating, drinking, moving around the cage, ringing the bell to have the door opened for a scratch (one of his little 'things'), mimicking my sneeze and trying to entice Henry into a game of peek a boo. Henry, on the other hand, has moved on from enquiring about his behaviour to trying to figure out why he is here in the first place..."what are you doing?" Whatya doing?. Of course...then I had to go and unsettle it all by introducing a big scary rope perch....I will leave his cage well along for a good few weeks now. I've still left it in, and he's still looking at it sideways....should I continue to leave it in, or take it out? Thoughts?

It appears you are off to a great start with Marley!!

My experience with Toos is they are very adaptable to new things in and including their cage. I've placed large wooden toys or rope-type perches and they get over any apprehension quickly. Give the Perch Monster a try, and watch for wariness or fear. You can always remove it and place it near the cage for extra scrutiny.

Hello and glad today is a better one or you. Re the rope perch as it's already there and hes only looking at it sideways i'd leave it. It he was flapping etc then withdraw it quickish. Anything new you want to introduce leave lying about in clear sight outside his cage for a few days. We hang things on the outside of Plum's to get him used to them and it gives them something extra to do cause you find them trying to bite it when think you are not looking. Love it that Marley does sneezes too, mine will also cough lol. Plum loves zip noises too - see if you get a reaction. My hol RB2 now does another noise which cracks us up (guess!) lol. Just goes to show how sharp their hearing is! Sorry getting a bit carried away, they are infectious little birds.

I bought a couple of rope perches for Alice once.

'Snake! Snake!'
'No Alice, it's just a perch, it's perfectly safe'
'Ah, I see. A perch, you say. '
'Yes!'
'And it's definitely not a snake?'
'No, it's made of rope. Here, have a look'
'Snake!'
'Ok, fine, I'll take it back'

So yeah, galahs and rope perches might be a thing.

He's not a 'too, but Goofy had his own recent run it with the Rope Perch Monster. His old rope perch had gotten old and nasty, and was falling apart. We got a new one and introduced it slowly, but the old one completely disintegrated before we had a chance to get him really comfortable with it. Finally his nature forced him to get to the highest spot in the cage and get over his fear. It took about a day after the old one came out before he accepted the new one.
