Does anyone give their birds MANU?

We have purchased some but have yet to give it to MAC.

I've read about the MANU clay in the wild but is their and actual necessity for it with our FID's?

my gcc uses it and seems to like it but my nanday won't touch it.

Hey rhino, manu is one of those things that wild birds use if they need it or to help with toxic fruits that they eat. Most birds will crave something if it's missing from their diet, they seem to be able to "medicate" themselves. I'd offer it, if they use it fine,if they don't it's because your feeding them a good diet.

I offer it to my birds. Sometimes I think it becomes more of a toy, meaning something to pick at and destruct, but they're relatively cheap, so I offer them : )

Can they overdo it out of boredom? I had to take the mineral salt block away from my horse because he was going through them so fast he'd have wound up with salt poisoning.... sometimes under artificial circumstances natural behaviors get distorted.

Yes ,i guess that could be true. Maybe a well adjusted, happy bird could self "medicate" itself. I see it with my flock of breeder tiels , can't put enough cuttle bones in the aviary before/during breeding season, but rest of the year cuttle bones receive little attention.( they'd rather eat the perches,LOL)
