At lunch I come home and fix Mango something to eat, and put it on the counter below his boing on newspaper, to keep his mess to a minimum. Anyway when I let him out of his cage, he flies around as he normally would. Then he will land on his boing, climb down and jump off to the countertop. Maybe only 3-4" down. He loves to jump! While I had my back turned making my sandwich I heard him plump to the floor! No wing flutter, as if he was flying down to the floor. I immediately went to pick him up and he stepped up. He was obviously freaked out. Seems that when he flew to his boing to climb down and eat, he blew the paper to hang over the edge of the counter. Thinking that the counter was under the paper he jumps down and hits the paper, which is hanging out over the edge, and continues to the floor. Anyway,
I checked him over felt his breast bone, with slight pressure and his feet and legs. All seem fine. He went to fly to the curtain with no problem. But seemed to be holding his left foot up. He normally sits on one leg, but doing this so quickly after the fall, that concerned me. I got him from atop the curtain, and checked him again. Gave him some snuggles. Shortly thereafter he was okay with the counter again and proceeded to eat. I wasn't going back to work unless he seemed normal. He started to fly around and play after lunch, so then I returned to work. I hope he isn't hurt and just hiding it from me!:(
He scared the crap out of me!

Oh no! That must've been terrifying! I'm glad Mango seems to be ok! :smile015:

Silly lovable boy! Just keep an eye on him for the next few days/a week, I'm sure he'll be ok.

Poor Mango, It sounds like it scared both of you. Hope he's over his fright and back to normal.

Oh no! That is so scary when that happens:( How is Mango today? I hope he is doing okay.
These guys can really scare us to death in just a second.

Please check his foot carefully, and in my experience Eclectus will drop to the floor without wing-flaps to cushion the descent.

My female did this about 10 years ago and suffered a broken leg. It was very easy to determine as there was no rigidity when she perched on my finger. Rushed her to the vet where a confirming image led to surgery. The leg was pinned and cast, and her recovery was inside a large plastic tub. It healed well, and she now has full use, but walks with a slight limp.

Glad Mango seems OK!!

Scott, yes have checked it out. He does put pressure on it and has since been jumping down off his boing, and off the perches on his playtop. He's also been climbing and hanging upside down with it as well. Finger crossed he is okay.

Late to the party on this, but I'm so glad that all seems to be well with Mango. Crazy how these freak accidents can happen out of nowhere.
