Who owns what gender, and what are things you like/dislike about it? I own a couple of each gender and like them all, but I just thought it'd be fun to talk about the different traits that go along with the guys and the gals. :)

Personally I prefer male birds. But, oddly enough I think I'd say that about any type of pet. I've always preferred the males over females. Maybe stemming from my first childhood pet being a male cat.
In terms of parrots I think the males are more vocal which I appreciate....They also seem to be more friendly. In my experience, which is pretty limited, the females tend to be a bit more shy and independent. But, all birds are different, so there are definately exceptions.

Male preference for health reasons really. Egg binding, not enough calcium causing issues etc.

I know males have their fair share too, but females seem to jump up regarding health.
Also, even with dogs, cats, rabbits etc. Things like spaying cost more than neutering because it's an internal operation. So... males!

I do have two fantastically social female budgie's though, so it doesn't really have anything to do with personality, that's more down to the individual bird I think. :)

i think i'd say males. similar reasons as mayden.

'cept i just got a female kitten instead of a male. ;3

Well, at this point I've had an equal number of each, although on larger birds, it leans to more females. As far as personality I'd say I like both equally. I've not any problems (yet) with egg laying or egg binding, so I try not to actually worry about it.

As for other animals, it depends:
House cats, prefer females; outdoors it doesn't matter to me

Dogs: prefer males

Horses: prefer mares (females)

Rodents: prefer males

All other animals I've had I can't say I have any preference

For me, I prefer female in dogs, don't matter in cat as I only have 2 cats to speak of that I've ever owned in my whole life, with birds either is fine. But prefer girls because Java and Willie are both boys and they want to attack my partner everyday so I can only do one at a time. Can't have them out together without fights.

With smaller birds I tend to prefer males, larger species I prefer females. Females seem less hormonal and generally a bit more easy going but I've never decided on an animal strictly by gender unless for breeding purposes. Everyone seems very worried about egg binding in females but if your birds are on a healthy diet and receive regularly vet care, it ahould be easily avoided.

My preferences as well...

I've had mostly male birds over my life and a couple females. From my experience the females are more "*****y" then the males lol (Just like us humans I guess XD) where as the males have always been more easy going and gentle.

Well I have a breeding pair so my male is kind of a buthead but he likes me and only me. My feamale(when she isn't nesting) loves to go for rides on my shoulder but doesn't like to be touched. I like her personality because she is so goofy, she like to investigate nuts and bolts, and hang upside down. My male is very silly, dancing all the time saying beepbeep, and playing with his toys. But male male is very loud, he has become attached to me so if I leave him for too long he starts screaming. My female however is very quiet.
So I like females better as long as they aren't nesting, then they are evil!!

I never really liked animals depending on their gender. I have 4 cats 1 boy and 3 girls. (i know they arent parrots but still) One of my girls is so gentle, one not as gentle but more cuddly and one girl is so wild and is constantly running around. My boy is gentle at times but can get pretty mad and used to have a boy that was soooo calm and gentle and never hurt us one bit.
So it really just depends on the animals personality. I do like girl hamsters better and sometimes girl dogs better but from what ive heard from PARROTS I guess I would prefer boys cause of laying eggs but im still a little confused on egg binding and stuff XD
