i am the mom of three parrots:
Dorothy- African grey (cag)
Bowie- blue and gold macaw
Nellie- hyacinth macaw
Reggie- hyacinth macaw
Marnie- white bellied caique
I'm curious if anyone has noticed any difference in personalities of a male vs. female greenwing macaw. I have tried to research this however I am coming up very empty. I would love to hear about any differences in behavior.

Can only comment on two people I know that have one of each (same parents of mine) the female definitely is the more relaxed and calmer in both pairs I know of.

I relly don't know if this applies , but my Stella is much more laid back then my Baby.
But HYs are like that to begin with...
And Baby is so laid back that if he was anymore laid back , he'd be asleep , lolol.

The male greenwing I know is anything but laid back... lol, he's very outgoing, excitable and playful. I've yet to see a "quiet" moment with him. haha

thanks for all the replies, when you say "more laid back" what are you referring to? Do you mean that the male is louder? or is he more aggressive? more playful?

It does depend on the individuals, but the males are more out going I've found? Either that, or I've only been exposed to overly active male macaws. =S

The females I've played with are more content to sit back for a scratch, perching around whereas males are more keen to wrestle, play, in your face, etc.

thanks Alisana! I know it's so hard to generalize as it comes down to each individual however have you noticed a difference in vocalizations? Do you think the males are more prone to constant noise?

Mmmm.... hard to say. Not that I really noticed. I guess the males are a bit more vocal? But not enough to really notice.

Our male is louder, more assertive and playfully animated making me laugh. Our female is happy just hanging out, perching and preening on her play stand, or chewing/shredding her toys with not a care in the world.

Laid back meaning , non aggressive , not put off by anything , extremely overly friendly and sweet ,sweet ,sweet :)
I can find a ton more adjectives to describe my guys but I figure you would get the point with just these :)

My Amazon I had when I was married to my first hubby was extremely vocal , not screaming but talking and he would bite you good when you let your guard down , just the way he was :)
His female wasn't as vocal or bitey but she was a snuggle bug only to him .
I was actually afraid of her if my ex was in the room and she was loose.

IMO , I think certain species sexes can be more aggressive .
But again , they are all individuals and what you see isn't always what you get.....or something like that ;)
