Many people say that male Greys are better talkers, but, I have known many females with extensive vocabularies. They both go through intense hormonal seasons. But, females have the potential problems of egg laying and egg binding. Personalities depend on their individuality, guardians interactions, and home environment factors. It is not a simple cut and dry issue.
i am the mom of three parrots:
Dorothy- African grey (cag)
Bowie- blue and gold macaw
Nellie- hyacinth macaw
Reggie- hyacinth macaw
Marnie- white bellied caique
When it comes to greys my breeder says that in general the females are usually easier to deal with. I think of course it depends on the bird. I have a female grey and I wouldn't trade her for the world! She is sweet, gentle, affectionate and she is starting to develop quite a good vocabulary! In fact my breeder has many, many breeds of birds and the best talker in their store/facility is a female grey. Go meet her and see how she is. I look forward to hearing about her!
Jake YNA 1970,Kia Panama amazon1975, both i removed from nest and left siblings, Forever Home to,Stacie (YN hen),Mickie (RLA male),Blinkie (YNA hen),Kong (Panama hen),Rescue Zons;Nitro,Echo,Rocky,Rub
I don't know much about CAGs, but some of the other species i do have an opinion. Generally no difference in speaking abilities but males seem to get along with other birds better. Hens can get "jealous" sometimes. Both can be cuddly.
If for some reason this "Grey isn't the one" .Having had many species . If I was going to get another bird with my Macaw [believe it or not it would be a "hot zon '] check them out [unbelievable experience ]
