- Kiwi : Indian Ringneck Parrot RIP, taken far too young, Mango : Lovebird, 5 years old 2014, Sprite : Pineapple green cheek, <1 2014
So right now I'm starting to fret about my birds diet.
So their main diet is chicken crumbles : layer food. So it's fairly high in calcium. I'm concerned that the calcium would be too high. The chicken crumbles is mixed in with pigeon feed which is mainly millet, corn and peas, with some seeds mixed in.
Along with that, I let them chew on an apple wedge during the day (its inbetween the bars), or a banana (I change it up). Along with that, I cut up carrots, apples, and add a grape (cut in half - NO SKINS. Lol according to them anyways). I also can add kiwi or orange (orange skin, I'd imagine, is good for them).
I'm just concerned that:
Their food they get regularly (chicken food mixed with pigeon food) isn't nutrionally complete (I was told it'd be fine but I'm a worry wart)
Or
That I'm feeding them too much fruit or fatty foods.
I don't mind cooking for them - should I add rice, beans, etc? We are cash strapped but I can get wild rice (like from rice-o-roni) and peas easily and cheap (we have peas right now, should I add them to their little 'veggie mix up')
Sorry for all the questions, I've never really had parrots I gave regular vegetables too before, or fruits, or whatever (we fed them the way the pet store said to -I'm assuming it wasn't nutrionally complete)
Thanks
