I am thinking of making some pvc perches and a stand for my birds. My dad is a plumber and I did some work with him when I was younger so I am well versed in putting pvc together. My question is when we cut pvc and glued it together we used a strong cleaner for the cut ends and a glue to hold it together. Both had very strong fumes that I have a feeling are not safe for birds. For those of you that have made pvc perches and stands for your birds, what do you use to clean the cut ends and to glue the ends together.

I have made my fair share of stands out of pvc. Honestly I don't glue them because I am afraid of the harsh smells. I just push them together really hard and I have never had a stand come apart.

Yes, but i don't use PVC except for the shower perches and the birds don't spend enough time on it to chew it. Just not a big fan of PVC for perches.Figure I'd let someone who uses it answer your questions.

I have not made pvc stands...yet...I drew up some plans etc etc went to home depot, looked around, had stuff in my cart...then totally chickened out! LOL I am not very craftly inclined and my husband kind of laughed at me so I gave up! I was going to make a pvc/dowel stand. my other issue was trying to find pvc corners and t's that would fit the dowels...anyways I know that was absolutly no help to you and im sorry. I wish you all the luck! please post pictures when your done!

I use and make my own pvc stands. I do use the glue but only a little. Never enough that it can be seen, that way the birds can't get to it. I always make sure to set mine out side when i work on them and leave them until i can't smell the glue at all. I also like to wrap rope around the perches my birds love it.

Yea i was planning on wrapping the actual perching part in sisal rope or painting on some of the stuff they use for roll on bedliners for trucks. It hardens like concrete so it would give it some texture, maybe help keep nails trimmed. That is if its safe. I havent done any research on that yet so we will see.
