A couple days ago I posted an ad on this neighbor app (nextdoor) looking to borrow a power washer so I could deep clean Lincoln's cage. I got a response from someone and went to go pick up the power washer just now. And to my surprise, he greated me with a lovely looking amazon I'm his hand! I was really excited because I didn't know there were any bird owners in my neighborhood. He said he had 3 other parrots inside too. I can't remember exactly what kind of Amazon the one he had was. A red-something. It was a special needs bird. Something wrong with her feet and wings, he didn't really specify though which is fine. This is really great because I now know someone who is experienced with birds that could watch Lincoln if I have to go on a trip or something. One less thing for me to worry about.

It's such a great thing to know other parrot owners around you.

That awesome! It's definately great to have someone close by with experience. Unfortunately for me I'm yet to find someone local with experience - So i'm a tad envious! :)

That's something I really miss about the Southwest... the parrot people. I was in two local parrot clubs, and had many buddies to call on!

Score X2!

*Message bot says my note was too short, so I'm adding this.*

Haha, my first thought was, 'what a great coincidence!" But then it occurred to me that there might be a causal reason why this guy has a power washer in addition to parrots. :p

Idk what the social media landscape is like in other countries, but in Israel I can usually find a facebook group dedicated to a particular hobby/interest in a certain area - eg, parrot keeping in my city, hiking in the south, etc.

Sounds like you had an adventure! Very cool.

I'm missing something though: you didn't actually say he offered to watch Lincoln. Did he in fact offer or are you just assuming since he's a likeminded person? Cause you know what happens when you assume...

So a guy ;) with a power washer and parrots = romance but you would have to have separate holidays :( (sorry running away here).

I look after a friends RB2 several times during the year and he is happy as larry switches back and forth no probs, he thinks he has two homes and two moms! :)

I long ago elected to be proactive when it came to our being any place for a given period of time. Since, our Amazons love to 'communicate' we have always made it a point to visit the nearby homes to introduce our Amazon. That way, when the 'communication' reaches a high point, we are visit by folks concerned about our Amazon and not a visit by the locate Police Department.

What, I have found is that someplace around 50/1 is what we see in people that have them self or other family members /friends that have Parrots. I will also get leads regarding other families in the area that have Parrots. Being proactive is the key to finding others with Parrots!

@Chris, I guess I am sort of assuming but I'd ask the guy first and what not and if he says no that's okay I have another option, some family that lives close by. They just don't have any bird experience which makes me a bit weary. I'd have to get them to interact with Lincoln a lot prior to any trips x.x

@Plums, nooo no romance xD this guy was a lot older than me and I'm pretty sure he was married. He was very kind though and I'm not opposed to having older friends, I generally get along better with people older than me anyways.

@isreal_gcc
Yeah he didn't mention birds when responding to my ad so it all kind of made a lot more sense when I saw the amazon. He knew my pain.

That's cool that you found some nearby neighbors that also have birds, could see that being a real benefit at some point.

I don't know if any of my neighbors have a parrot and other than the ones within 100' of me I'm not sure they know I have one either, and I'm a bit hesitant to spread the word for what might seem a paranoid reason. We have a bad opiate problem in Northeast Ohio, real bad. Petty crime like home break ins have sky rocketed, many people just want to steal something to sell to get a fix. I have heard stories of people's pets that were either attempted to be taken of their were harmed. It only takes a 30 second Google search to find out that many parrots fetch a pretty penny, I want nothing to do with someone like that knowing that there is a parrot to be had in my home.
