made me bleed

I was changing their food today and the male was waiting and eager to eat but he bit me hard while doing it and made me bleed, people here thought my cat did it

I guess i will just wear gloves around? THey are scared of gloves not my hand. The female does not bite.

If i put gloves on they stay away from me but not scared of my flesh. Not a big deal I guess i did not expect them to be tame but i should just be more careful i guess?

If the bird is tamed, than it shouldn't make you bleed UNLESS it is frightened or does not like something you're doing to it or something going on around it.

Ordinarily, a bird bite shouldn't make you bleed. Chances are the bird is afraid of your hand. If you were putting your hand around his food, he make have bitten you cause he thought you were gonna take his food away. I remove the food dishes from outside the cage, clean them & fill them and then put them back. Despite both my birds being very well tamed, I still do that.

I would try reassuring them with your voice and changing the water/food dishes from outside the cage.

I've no experience with gloves, so I can't help you there. I know some vets use gloves when holding parrots and some use towels.

Sounds like he could be a little territorial. My barraband can be a bit Luke that around his food bowl since I got another bird. I would just wear gloves until you can have him trained to stay on the other side of the cage while you change his food

The cage is seen as HIS or HER territory. Males tend to be very protective of their mate, their food and their toys. Females tend to be very protective of their eggs and their nest.

I have a SUPER strong bond with my sun conure but he will NOT let me put my hand in his cage without a fit. What I do, is open the cage and let him come out on his own, which he always does.
