Well, Mac wore out his old perch in his play area (pictured below) and it was really a pain to clean under due to the way we had put it together.

So we worked up a new one. Mac didn't like the way the hoop swung freely so we put some branches in so he could still get to the floor in his area and it stabilized the hoop at the same time. The branches kind of distort the roundness but Mac doesn't seem to mind.

It turned out larger than I really planned but it was a learning experience!!:D

I love his pose in the first pic hahaha that's so cute! :)

mac is very spoilt!

Does he stay in his play area the whole time? I've thought about doing that but I'm just afraid something would happen while I'm not home....

I know I should be focusing on the perch, but what a beautiful macaw. That first picture is just stunning!

No, absolutely not!! MAC is only in his play area when we are at home. Otherwise he is in his cage in "His" other room. My wife works at home so he is a supervised 2 year old!!

You need to provide some general guidance as too how you built that hoop! That thing would be great!!!

Mac is our baby!! The perch is built with only stainless hardware, natural sisal and the shredable cotton rope.

Beautiful bird and perch! I don't think you could ever make one too large, they love to get around and need to. I know for myself, that I could never trust Mi Amigo to stay on it without supervision. Amigo would be chomping on the window sill if I turned my back!

We had to make a minor modification to the perch this afternoon.

We had used 3/4" PVC to cover the chain from the ceiling to the perch.

Mac found he could climb that and hang out on the chain at ceiling height.

we replaced it with 2" PVC so he is not able to get a grip on it to climb it.

Min's tail gets all ragged cause he likes to play on the bottom of his cage. I just wish mine would stop doing that...it used to be nice like yours....Willie is kinda crazy...lol

Nice work!.... and one happy looking and beautiful macaw!

Thanks to all for the compliments! Mac is a beautiful bird and really starting to develop a personality!!

When he discovered he could climb the 3/4" PVC he would then slide down it like a fireman's pole.

This is a picture of him on his way down.

He wasn't real happy when I put the larger piece on it yesterday evening so he could not climb up it!

We had his HATCHDAY party yesterday and you can see his pictures in the link below!!
