Mackaw in Malta

Not mine but seen in Malta today living in a 16th Century Palace. Thought you might appreciate it!

Well, I guess we all know who the king of that castle is then:p

What is the bird sitting on though? A pipe? Looks a bit dangerous to me.

That would be thin wall metal material, not unlike conduit, formed not drawn - note the interlock (lower front). Commonly used to hold light weight structures like residential TV antennas. Zinc coated (galvanized) surface. Appears that the end had been cut using a hacksaw. Would not be anywhere near my top 100 choices for perch material. The largest diameter that I have seen this material is 25 mm (1").
 
The parrot is really pretty, and it looks like he is waving to the audience,..
