Macaw weights

Hi guys and gals

I have put together a table on average macaw weights. It is based off birds I have myself weighed, birds that have gone through my friend (who is a vet) and a short paper written by a vet in America who kept records of all birds. A few of the rarer entries are based on some old reports etc.

Obviously being in Australia the number of macaws I actually have first hand data on is quite small (while my records on cockatoos are huge!). I would love if anybody here could add the weights of their macaws to my data. Hopefully the few articles that cover different groups will be one of the more accurate sources of weight tables on the net.

So in conclusion please tell me how much your macaw weighs as well as its species/subspecies. Thank you!

One species that particularly interests me is the red shouldered macaw. I have split up nobles and hahns for obvious reasons. Many sites out there list hahns as averaging 165g. I have never measured a hahns that was that heavy. All have been 160 or less with one outlier that I believe was probably a hahns/noble cross. I would have the average at about 150. Are all the pure hahns I have ever seen just small? hmmmm

Niko, my Blue & Gold weighs 1,250g (in the morning, empty crop) He is 3.5 years old.

Ripley, my GW weighs 1,390g (in the morning, empty crop) He'll be 2 this month.

Thanks heaps for the info Will all be added to the data! Also had someone pm me with a hahns at 135g which fits what I was seeing.

My GW, age 18, weighs between 1590-1620 grams~ I think your weight for GW is a little low! lol

Ciry is about 860g in the morning when her crop is empty 8 months old baby B&G

Haha maybe but it is based on the current averages! Few outliers like yours (current max is bigger again) Added now thanks.

I may add max and min (outliers) to the table also.

My Blue and Gold weights 690 grams (empty crop) and 712 (full crop). She is 11 month old. I know that there are no subspecies of B&Gs but she is really small.
