So my question is, how do you teach a macaw to talk? My macaw is with our almost whole day, we speak to her quite a lot. She is not 9 mths old, yet she doesnt seem to pick up any words/line.

Also one off-topic question: I am not handfeeding her anymore, and her weight stays at around 850-860g in the morning when she is empty. Sometimes I still need to feed her, because she just doesnt eat in the morning, and I dont know why. She also wont eat seeds/pellets in her cage when she wakes up. But on other hand, she will eat almost to full crop in the evening.

Thanks !

Hi Johnny :)

I'm sure Ciry is listening to your every word. One day she may surprise you and say something when you least expect it. ;) Just keep on talking, repeating, repeating, repeating. Now there IS a possibility she may never utter a word, so please don't be too disappointed. My Niko started talking a LITTLE before he was 1, but he is now REALLY picking up on it, and he's 3.5 now. :)

As for the weight, Ciry is still a baby. I'm sure she will fill out as she gets older. She may just be a smaller bones big mac, that's all. Here is a weight chart:

Thanks I will be peatiently waiting for her words, hopefully she will as good speaker as Niko :)

Thanks for the chart, so she is just slightly under the normal weights, so that comforting. I think that if she keeps her weight as it is (even if it is a little bit under like I said) it should be just fine.

Wow I am just so much excited for the day she will talk :)

Wow glad he didn't weigh Echo, a rehome YN male who weighted 880 grams when Scott was examining some of my breeder zons. Echo would have set the record for napes. BTW Echo is around 800 grams now , he's just a monster although sleek and healthy now , living with his new family in NC.

NICE!!! I bet Echo is a sight to behold!! Gosh, and I always thought my Hunter was gigantic at 725g. :54: How much does Jakie weigh, Richard? She looks enormous, too. :D (I mean that in a good way, not in a fat way...)

Jake is a little heavy at 501 grams, she's just a smaller parvipes. Maybe due to poor diet as a chick that stunted her growth. Didn't know much about handfeeding baby zons back in the 70's (before the internet). She was mainly feed cream of wheat cereal mixed with bananas as handfeeding formula. We do have several napes in the 725-750 range, so that's not that uncommon , IMO.

Also I forgot to mention one funny thing... when we train for example talking or some tricks, she often thinks I want her to poop. For example, I say "Say hello" and she would fly to her cage and poop, then comes back. I dont know why but she thinks I want her to do it all the time. She wont even poop that much, like really one small poop u cannot even see :-D It is kind of funny really.

Hey for the poop thing {LOL] Whatever works :) I thought my female Macaw wasn't going to talk much. But now shes 2 and is really saying alot . It stared when she was a year and a half [Don't give up yet :) }
