Hi all let me start at the begining I was visiting a friend who had a Congo Africian Gray parrot that is 8 years old. The conditions she was living in were beyond belief. The size of the cage was 20x16 with inches of dry droppings on the bottom. I toy to play with and was never let out of this cage from time of purchase. Her water bowl was empty and green colored from not being cleaned and she has only been fed a poor seed diet and dry oatmeal and dry cereal only when seed was not available due to finances. No veggies were ever given or fruit to this bird. My heart was broken and the bird interacted with me immediately and was craving for attention and affection. Money was more important to these people who refused to let me just have the bird, but when I offered to buy it they gave in immediately. She is now living with me since Sunday and now has a cage 5ft by 4ft and several new toys. I have given her a assortment of veggies, and fruits which she took too immediately and looks for me to give her more all the time. She loves to bathe in her water bowl several times a day with the results being dirty brown water. Her feet are now gray and pink instead of brown and green. She talks some but it is all profanity that she heard in the house. I will have to try to teach her some new better words. LOL I made a appointment with a well know Avaian vet next week to have a complete check up and blood work done. Her wings have never been trimmed or her nails. I am so lucky to have rescued her and I love her already so much. I have another Congo Africian gray now at home who is her sister and is also 8 years old. So the siblings will have alot of catching up to do. I have the new gray (Lucy) in quarantine now until the vet ok's her health is good and they can be reunited. I plan to get her off seed and on a pellet diet as soon as I can. Spiritbird is the god-mother of both my Grays now and my 4 dogs and 2 cats here. Will post some photos later and anyone with any advice or suggestions please respond. Thanks.......Critterman

What a sad story with a lovely ending. Lucy is blessed having you in her life. Giving her the best life she could ever imagine. You are doing everything correct, in the book of birds, page for page. Lucy has an amazing godmother, SB. You now have a walking birdie dictionary by your side, SB will guide you all the way.
Good luck, please keep us updated with Lucy's progress, and the results from the vet.

Every time I read one of these type stories I want 2 cry and then I want to go and beat up the idiots that had that bird. Its a very sad thing to realize that this is an all 2 common thing. :(

Kudos 2 U for rescuing this MAJESTIC creature. Any one who has ever had the privilege of befriending a Grey knows how MAJESTIC they are.
Thanks so so much and let me know if I can HELP in any way. THANKS AGAIN !!!!!

Gandolf thanks so very much for your kind words. I am having so much fun already with Lucy and she is adjusting well to her new home and loves to eat everything and anything you give her. She loves to bathe several times a day in her water dish. She is already speaking several small words. Her sister Gracie is enjoying her company even though they are quarantined. What is your opion on full spectrum lighting for grays? Thanks, Critterman:grey:

U are Welcome  I think that the Full Lighting is a very good thing. We used to not have it and when we got full lighting we noticed a difference in the behavior especially. Do your self a favor though......Look on line for the light. We found out that normal places like the hardware stores do not have Full Lighting as they advertise. At least not around here...:11:

Why would people treat their animals like that? Those type of people disgust me!!!!

Thank you for saving that bird!!!!

Just a update on Lucy, she is doing well in her new home and loves to eat and bathe all the time. She loves attention and loves to give kisses whenever I lean into the cage. She is eating well and seems very happy with her sister Gracie also a African Grey. Thanks so much for all the help and support. SB has sent several new toys and pellets and wholesome seed. I can't thank SB enough! Critterman

You are so welcome CM. Anyone interested in the best for their birds is a good person in my world.
