Indian Ring Neck
I saw a similar post in the "Conure" forum. Since my bird is an Indian Ringneck, I thought it appropriate to post here.

My Indian Ringneck is somewhat obsessed with playing with cans. He doesn't want to chew up the can, so I'm less concerned about him ingesting them, he just wants to peck them, and bang them around. My main concern is that he might cut his tongue on the sharp part of the hole...is that a legitimate enough concern that we should keep cans out of his play things?

Using an aluminum soda can as a toy can provide your Parrot with a combination of an inexpensive toy, one that makes noise when bumped and super smooth surface. As you noted, there is always an issue with the possible sharp edge of the opening.

It is the type of toy that 'requires' your close observation during playtime and quick removal of the soda can when play involves the area around the opening. It is very important to remember that your Parrot could be attacked by any soda that may still be inside the can. This is a problem on two levels, first Sugar can interact with their natural hormones increasing their effect. And second, the taste can increase their interest in the opening, which increases the change of a cut...
