Dublin-Plum Headed Parakeet, and Lucky-peach faced lovebird
My boss and his wife recently divorced, and somehow I got the birds in the divorce. I have owned almost every animal known to man, but never birds! Here's my question, both birds are about 15 years old, and they don't seem to like one another. They never fight, but the female plum head stays by herself and is very quiet, while the lovebird is always moving around and talking. They are in a cage that is about 4ft tall and 2 ft wide, so they have plenty of room to mind their own business. I'm wondering if the lovebird would be happier with another lovebird, and the plum head would rather be alone. I like them, but the lovebird is a bit messier and louder than I had anticipated. If it would be best to rehome him/her, I will look for someone with a lovebird seeking a buddy. I have read up about both, but there isn't much info about the two as roommates. Any advice is greatly appreciated =)

As long as they tolerate each other its fine! I had a lovebird with a cockatiel once. They were best buds. But they were raised together as babies. But he will chase after other cockatiels! I would be more afraid of the lovebird be the mean one. If they don't fight I wouldn't worry about them.

Thank you for the input! You're right, the lovebird is a mean little critter, and the plum head is three times the size of him (or her) and much sweeter. I have trouble getting my arm in the cage past the lovebird sometimes. I probably should have mentioned that not only am I a new "bird" person, I now own 2 that are NOT tame at all, lol. At least they get to do their own thing I guess...

That don't surprise me one bit....I used to have them bit the heck outta me and won't let go...They give one nasty bite!!! I couldn't hardly check the nest box cause they would come in and ready to attack...lol

I would NOT keep them together. A member on here recently lost a budgie to a lovebird. They tolerate each other now, maybe, but I've known lovies to be sweet one day and horrible the next.

Ratzy-they have been together for 15 years, their whole lives. I have had them since July and they have never fought, they just mind their own business. Do you think that since the lovebird it nearing the end of his lifespan I should seperate them now? I genuinely know nothing about them and appreciate your input. Thanks again.

MikeyTN-he is friendly once he's out of the cage, (just not tame). He loves to fly around a bit and then is quite content to just sit on our heads. But I have had to put a sock on my arm once or twice when he's in one of his "moods" ... lol

I say they'll be fine together since they've been kept together that long. Like I've told you the one I raised with a cockatiel, they don't fight at all.
