2 Lovebirds: 1 male A. r. roseicollis (Whitefaced Violet Mutation) & 1 female A. r. roseicollis (Green Mutation?)
It's 9pm & my little lovebird just decided to preen my face for me for the last 20 minutes. No need to go to the facialist anymore, every bit of my face has been careful cared for by my little girl. I was propped up on some pillows in bed planning out a vacation and decided she had the perfect vantage point to really get at my face.

A little bit gross since she's doing all this with her mouth, but sweet, similar to a dog licking your face thoroughly I guess. I had to stop what I was doing and just let her work because every time I tried to move my face away from her she would kind of aggressively chase it down and resume her work.

She has never done that before. Her mate, a boy, died about a month & a half ago & she has been growing more and more attached to me. Originally she didnt really want anything to do with me and always hesitantly "stepped up". Now I am getting preened.

PS. Hopefully Neem Oil is safe because thats what I use to moisturize. Neem oil with a drop of lavender & rosemary essential oil.

hey buddy don't worry neem oil is absolutely fine..even in ayurvedic treatment for birds neem is used alot..and the most shocking thing i have noticed is that lovie even many parrots are fond of neem. my naru loves neem leaves..and i must say your lovie is a bundle of happiness..GOD BLESS HER ...:)

OMG she is still going, she keeps going for my face. Sometimes I have makeup on and I have to pull my face away from her. Its fruit pigmented natural stuff but still, I dont want her taking all my makeup off. I notice if she cant get my face then she'll preen my neck, arms, shoulders. She seems to focus on freckles. I was like "those arent coming off buddy. Is this hormonal or something? This is really unusual. It does kind of remind me of a cat in heat...insistent, strange, & affectionate.

Hi Christine - I had a peach faced lovebird that used to love to preen me, a male, but he wasn't as insistent as yours seems to be. I have 2 Fischer lovebirds currently but they are fairly wild so I haven't allowed them out of a flight cage. I don't think I'd worry to much about it, if he was biting would be a different thing, but seems harmless enough. My Nico would spend HOURS on my ears lol.
