Losing down

Just wondering as she's my first parrot but my senegal is losing a lot of down feathers all over. She's not pulling them from what I've seen, just falling out. She's almost 10 months old and pretty strongly bonded to just me if that has anything to do with anything. Thanks.

Sounds like she's going through her first molt, so you'll be vacuuming a lot more feathers in the next few weeks.....she'll probably be a bit grumpy as molts are not fun adventures for out feathered friends...extra treats might be in order too.....

She's very cuddly so hopefully that means I'll be able to massage her pin feathers and help them along. I've heard baths help to but she absolutely hates them, she hops away as fast as she can when she sees the spray bottle so we'll have to work on that once she starts.

Losing down feathers will happen pretty much all the time whether they're molting regular feathers or not.

If she's molting you'll probably see more, but then you should start to see feathers on the floor too, not just down.

** You will hear bird people refer to down which has fallen out as "floofies". I call them bird hair

Does she like to take baths in any dishes? She might really like that better because she can stop at any time.
From my experience, some of my birds LOVE natural rain water. When theres a light drizzle I take my parakeets outside and also spray them at the same time with warm water. They're only out there for 5 minutes because I don't want them having the risk of sickness.
