I am very interested in the Lories. I cant find too much info on them. How long on average do they live? I saw on one website 7-9 years and I was thinking no way with proper care. What brand of nectar do you feed your lories? Where do you get it from? Are they stereotypically accepting of other birds? How loud can they be? I am aware of the mess they make. Most importantly, What is your favirote lory? I would like to know what the best companion lory is? I dont care about noise, color, abiliities, and things like this. I just want a fun friend. Thanks in advanced.:)

Hi , I have 2 lorys . I think I read 15 years on life span. My male is a Yellow streaked lory. They need big wide cages ,boings ,swings and foot toys. The are a real circus act :) even more so than my Caiques. Tons of fun, hyper. My male will play on his back with foot toys in both hands. He likes his neighbors the Caiques through the bars. but is very aggressive towards my other birds and will try to attack them [even the Macaw]. So I have to take him out by himself. Their both very smart . Can break out of their cages and dismantle toys. Even though their beaks not strong enough for seeds. They both talk sentences, they have a low fast voice Its suprising to me how fast they pick up words. Now my female whose a Chattering Lory [look them up ]. Is gorgeous she does not try to fly and attack others . She just wants to be with me. Shes a lot bigger than my Yellow streaked. Out of my big flock id say they rank right up their with being the smartest . If you own one you will know why:).I almost got a "Perfect Lory". Their tiny and full of it . Look for a breeder on Bird Breeders ,com . Don't be afraid of having them shipped by plane [their fine].

They are both so beautiful. I like the personality of your yellow streaked lory and the temperment of the chattering lory. How much was your yellow streak? What nectar do you use and where do you get it from. I would also like to see your cage if possible. Sorry for all the queshtions I kind of feel like I am bugging you lol.

They are pretty hyper when their young . Then seem a little calmer when they get older.I think they would be aggressive towards other birds. What I like most about them is they know how to really entertain themselves with the right set up . Their talking ability is surprising.I use Goldenfeast Lory Nector that I order on Amazon. They eat juicing fruits and soft vegs. The powder is a must and they need it everyday. Mine get it 2 times a day. I put plexi glass behind their cages and stack newspaper on the bottom and change the top layer every day.All around great birds if you don't mind the mess and diet needs. They were 700 and 600 but this is from a store and in NY so things are higher.

I have the same cage for my tiel. I guess I forgot that their beaks arent that strong so a flight cage would be perfect. Now its just a search for the perfect lory well it doesnt have to be a perfect lory breed but you know what I meant.

The black capped is SO pretty too :). In fact lories are all so colorful and/or beautiful. There are some other people here too that I can think of who have lories, but none are on here regularly enough to have seen your thread yet. Besides Terri ;). Looks like she gave you lots of good info!

So fun how there are really a wide variety of different kinds of lories in the pet trade, although not super common to keep lories, I guess cause it's kind of a specialty with their care and diet. MikeyTN one of the mods here has a Black Lory.
