Hi just writing as I am a little concerned about my parrot. He is molting at the moment and as well as loosing his tail feathers he is loosing the little feathers on his head. I am a little concerned as he has molted before but has never lost the feathers on his head. Is this normal? :green2::green2:

I seen the same in my ekkie the past few days, but this is her first molt so I'm not really worried.
I'm not sure but I think they can loose feathers in different places each molt, and sometimes the same places over and over again.
Someone else should be able to give you a little more info!

Sounds like a possible hard molt.

In eclectus, it has been named the "Mojo moult" - where-in the birds look like complete crap! But once the birds are done molting, they are gorgeous as ever!

I've seen some ringneck species go through a hard molt as well, and the same applies. If the alex is an only bird and isn't rubbing the feathers off, this is probably what it is.

It is normal for Alex's to go through a hard moult at this time of the year here in OZ. Usually straight after the breeding season. Just feed him up on some good healthy foods & he will be fine.

Brodie some Eclectus go through a Mojo Molt but not all do. My 2 two year old males are going through a head moult ATM 1 more so than the other. But they are only having a normal moult.

Actually I was going to tell you about Elliott but i see Monica has already posted the link. Elliott is one of my parrots & he had the worst mojo molt i had ever seen. He came through it looking beautiful. Although it seemed to take months.

Hi, if its in a moult sequence its totally normal. You'll have half the head feathers missing at one point. I posted a picture somewhere else on the alex thread as an example.

Thanks to everyone who has helped me out with my question, my bird seems fine and his feathers are starting to grow back back now. It looks like it was a normal molt.
