Looking to buy a African grey Congo

Japie (m) & Appie (f), both are congo african grey;
All are rescues- had to leave their previous homes for 'reasons', are still in contact with them :)
That would buy you almost 4 of them overhere...

We have a lot of (hobby) breeders here (no parrotmillsituations), and co-parenting is the norm.
*(here the babies stay with the parents -its the law- and usually have a bit of human interaction daily, so far less bad habbits/traumaas and no handfeeding mishap-issues)
Breeding is mosly done for fun, not profit, the only thing that makes them more expensive to buy is the amount of vet-testing, transponderplacing etc..
Lots of breeders only breed with fully tested parents and will not test the babies, others will let you test the babies on your own, other will fully test the babies before even putting the "for sale" notice up.
So if you know who you buy from a babybird does not have to be expensive.
(we still have some terrible shops that will sell possible sick babies and blame you if they die / we are not heaven! Horrible greedy people are universal.)
You live in one of the most expensive regions of the world!
(and a very beautifull one!)

(we are talking babybirds here)
it depends who you know and where you buy (breeder or shop, friend or stranger)
There are no fixed prices afaik.
As everywhere: if they are supercheap (350) there is something wrong.
(I am not a breeder or a broker, so I am just repeating what I hear and see)

People mainly breeders always try to get ridiculous prices for them as babies online, but usually goes for around $1500 locally for younger ones. I always get people trying to sell one. The guy I recused Cooper my male umbrella cockatoo from had 4 of them about a year old and was asking $700 for them and that was last summer. It is better to rescue a one that need a home instead, unless you are stuck on getting a baby?
Need to know area you live around? Experience and setup you have with birds? As if in my area can ask around as know a few breeders and shelters in area if you are looking for a baby, or don't mind a older one, or a rescue?

When I got Levi he was asking $2200. I paid cash and got him for $1800.
I never see them for under 2500 and higher these days.
$700 is a steal if bred well.

That usually how it work here as well. Cash you can get them to come down in price, usually around $1500 to $1600 for babies locally and about $1000 for a re-home in my area in some cases people include the cage and supplies they have as well.

Demand indeed- there are sooo many birds (very well brought up and a joy to live with but ... no longer cute and cuddy when they grow into adolescents/ obviously sexual active adults ) that need a good home...
So plze adopt one of those!
Most hobbybreeders here like to keep track of where their birds go - so they much prefer selling their babies (for a reduced price) to people who obviously know what they are doing and who will most likely not ditch the bird a few years from now.
(And of course we have the "I am just into it for the profit"-people.)
