Looking to adopt

Hello everyone!

I have carefully thought about this and have decided I would like to adopt. I thought what better place than here! I had an Electus growing up and never had another parrot after that. I am allergic to cats and dogs so a parrot is the perfect companion for me and my wife.

We have a large home with a beautiful backyard and no children. (Currently living in south Florida). Anyone looking to rehome?

Thanks for reaching out and planning to adopt, there are so many parrots in need of great homes! You may not get a whole lot of answers here, have you checked your local parrot rescue? Especially in the Florida there are many parrots in rescues that are in need of loving, caring homes!

Yes I have reached out to get familiar with the process, but also wanted to check on here. Thanks for the suggestion!

Welcome to Parrot Forums! Within the sub-Forums is a vast amount of information regarding the many Parrot species.

Since you are allergic to cats and dogs. It would be wise to be tested to determine if you could be effected by different Parrots as some individuals are effect by some and not others.

It is very important to gain an understand of what species best fit your household. Since you have had an Electus before. I'm guess a mid to large Parrot is what you are thinking.

It would be wise to consider spending sometime at a Rescue in your area and provide them several days of both of your time. Start from the very bottom, cleaning cages, and then feeding, etc... The process will allow both of you to experience Parrots and develop a join comfort in a couple species that fit.

Once you both have spent time up close and personal time with a wide cross-section of different species and are comfortable as a couple. Its time to consider another approach beyond selecting a Parrot. It is worth considering letting a Parrot select the BOTH of you!

Welcome, I hope you update us with your journey, we’d love to hear about it!

Regarding allergies, be careful. Ekkies are the easiest on allergies for sure. I had budgies and a conure that triggered my allergies really badly. I didn’t know what was going on at the time, just thought I was having a sneezing fit and knew nothing of allergies until I got older.

My ekkie is definitely not triggering anything in me. Not sure what your looking for as you don’t say but it definitely sounds like an ekkie should be tops of your list for allergy reasons.

Awesome to hear you are wanting to adopt. I was honestly wary getting a re-homed parrot when I got Moosh. But the truth is the experience has been awesome! And I don't have to deal with birdy puberty. African Greys, Cockatoos, and Cockatiels all put off a lot of powder from their feathers that bother some people. We got an air filter and that has helped a lot with parrot dust.

I have an incredible Congo African Grey Parrot that I need to re-home due to health issues. Please private message me if you are interested in taking. Tsali is beyond words an awesome feathered friend. We live in Northwest Georgia.

Hi

Are you still looking to adopt? If so have you investigated different kinds of parrots and found out about different kinds of personalities you may be interested in? I have one that I need to re-home. It is however a child forever. It needs love all the time and that will never change. It will never get bored of attention and will throw tantrums like a child if you decide you are no longer interested in her.
Let me know

Deb,
Could you share with us some details about the bird you are looking to place?
