2 Green Cheek Conures
My Green Cheek Conure does not like the toy that he came with, nor the one I purchased. I am new to owning birds, haven't had a parrot around the house in 20 years or so. When I bought Keelin, the clerk told me he was so bored he was biting off his own tail feathers. I figured getting him out of the store and in a new environment would help out, but it appears the answer to that is no! I have ordered some other toys online and I am in the process of building a nice Play perch for him. Just looking for some advice on getting him to stop, anything would be awesome!

Try playing with his toys in front of him and make it seem like SOOO much fun so he will get intrigued and want to see what the fuss is all about. Maybe he needs to be taught how to play. Also does he have a favorite treat? He needs his brain stimulated.. foraging toys are great especially if you hide his fave treat in them

I actually found an old ping pong ball and threw it up in the air, it got his attention a bit, so I might try with the other toy he has. He loves Sunflower seeds! thanks for the tips, its very much appreciated!

Welcome to the realization that most commercial bird toys are based on what has sold for a company/manufacturer previously, irregardless of what appeals to companion birds.....on the other hand, you might want to look at home-made toys, often made by bird owners & are many time what their personal birds have liked.....so unless you speak parroteeze, you'll end up playing the same guessing game many of us play every day.....

Good luck.....

I picked up some plastic cat balls with bells inside that Pat can grab on with his beak or feet. Let's me be able to play with him using them. It fun watching him go after it while I have it. He can get real fiesty with it.

Yes, Loco never plays with the toys I buy but loves the ones I make. He LOVES these little plastic cat balls.. smh. Lol

Thanks guys! Im getting places. I've hid some sunflower seeds around the toys to see if he get them, figured he might get the idea that those toys = a snack? its worth a try. I may look into those toys drj130, thanks very much!

Ryno, your new conure may not stop biting his tail feathers right away. He is probably a little stressed with the transition to a new home. More than likely, when he adjusts to his new environment he will get curious and show an interest in his toys, at least some of them. Like weco mentioned, buying toys is a guessing game until you get to know your bird's likes and dislikes. DIY toys get the most use with my birds.
