Hey guys, new to this forum. I am desperately looking for a bronze winged or dusky pionus. I would love to adopt an unwated more than buy from a breeder but I have no idea where to look anymore. The internet search hasn't gone well. Anyone have suggestions on where to find such bird?
Thanks
:blue2:

Hello and welcome!
It may help to post where you are, as that way someone from your area may be able to help:)
Good luck in your search - Pionus are awesome!

Oh so sorry, I thought I filled out my personal information but it looks like it didn't save!
I am located in Los angeles area in CA.
I was corresponding with a rescue, but It's been about a month now and I am getting a bit frustrated with their lack of response. They require a bird care class to be taken, and I've been waiting for a time slot for too long so i'm starting to look elsewhere =/
I already have a large indoor cage as well as a large outdoor sun/ play cage....but still no pi!

Sometimes good things vomes from patience and wait. How long have you been searching for one???

I've been looking for several months, but my search is getting more in depth the longer I go with out finding the perfect fit. I am ok waiting as long as I know it is going in the right direction
Looking for a bronze winged or dusky

When your looking for a specific specie it really limits you to different possibility plus less likely of a chance to find the one you wanted unless you go to a breeder instead cause you wanted specifics. Good luck in your search though. :)

Welcome to the forum. :)

I'm sorry to hear you haven't had much luck with nearby rescues. Do you know if any of those rescues even have the Pi you are looking for?

I'm on the east coast, and have to say, I have never seen any kind of Pi in a rescue.

I can't even find breeders for them. Breeder lists who say they ship don't seem to breed the bw anymore. I found a few dusky but it would have been over a grand and a half. That's out of my price range.
I would alter my search for a sweet pi though.
Just not finding many. Lots of breeding pairs, but no friendlies

Continue checking on: www.birdbreeders.com

Even though they may not have what you are looking for at the moment, I'm confident in due time they will have some babies. :)

You can also search there on who breeds these birds near you.

Hi, I am also on the Pionus forum you're on as Julie T. Did you check back there? Someone posted about an ad on Petfinder.com. There is a Bronze Winged there right now in San Jose. Maybe they'll ship if the long drive up there for you isn't feasible?

I've been exactly where you are right now. Lost my BW 7-8 years ago, and had started looking for a Bronze Winged again for many months (maybe a year off and on)? to no avail. As you say, there are not as many breeders who have them anymore. Besides, you want a rehome, which is even harder to come by. BUT... Good news is, I do see ads for rehomed BW Pionus seems like once a month or less... And I'm not even looking at rehome ads. So, they ARE out there and not as rarely as one might think!
Maybe it is like when you're out shopping for something specific (color style, etc.) and you can never find it? But if you're not looking for it, you start to see it everywhere, you know? :)

Good luck. Rehome Bronze Wing are out there! Haven't seen Dusky though.

Yep, application is in with them. I am on the waiting list for the phone class. Problem is, there are several other people going after those pies to. One lady is trying to get two of them. Once I saw that, is when I started looking elsewhere as a back up. Mickaboo birds would be my first choice but those aren't guaranteed.
