Hello all!

I have not posted here in quite some time, but I am pulling out my hair looking for a new apartment in order to be able to keep my bird, and hopefully be able to add one to the family.

I am moving to the Boston area, and I have had no luck in finding a place that allows birds. I have just written a place that says pets are allowed and I am waiting for a response to an e-mail that says I have a "caged bird". Granted my baby is out of his cage as often as possible, I don't think the owner of the building needs to know this. If this falls through though, would anyone happen to be from the Boston area or know of any apartments or housing that is not incredibly expensive that will allow me to keep my bird?

Not moving to Boston is not an option as I am going to the main campus of my school this upcoming semester and it is there.

Thanks for any help. :)

Just wanted to say good luck with the move. We also listed "caged birds" on our pet thing. We also OFFERED an additional bond to the estate agency people etc, basically saying "IF there is any animal damage, here's the bond to cover it". Sometimes helps change their minds - showing your serious :)

I too am looking into moving but luckily to Florida off campus housing where they allow pets which is apparently the norm down there.

I never had a problem finding a place to live when I had parakeets. Many times the landlord didn't even know about them. I would only feel compelled to mention I had a bird if I had something loud and possibly destructive like a macaw or cockatoo. If your bird is small I'd say parakeet/lovebird/maybe even green cheek (although they get loud so that may be pushing it) I'd try the places that say "no pets allowed" anyway. Most times when they say that they are really talking about cats and dogs so I'd give it a try anyway.

If you can prove you'll be a good tenant and the landlord likes you and probably really needs to rent out the apartment maybe they can overlook a little birdy for you :)
Stay positive ! It's great that you won't leave your pet behind!
I wouldn't even be thinking about Florida if my two dogs and birds couldn't come with me.

Thank you both, I will definitely try adding in the extra information and offer to pay an extra animal fee if need be. :) For now I just have my love bird, but I have wanted a couple others for a long time! I was thinking about getting an African Grey to start with and when I get my own house that is actually mine I do want a macaw and a cockatoo as well. Maybe some others. One day I would like to open a bird refuge. :)

And Mel, no, having to leave him behind is not something I want to do. I had an Eclectus that I absolutely loved and then found out I was moving overseas and now that I am moving back to the states I REFUSE to have to rehome my bird again! XD
