Hi,

I'm new to the forum. Really I joined to look for a macaw breeder. I live in CT and it's really hard to find a breeder. All I can find are cockatiels and budgies. I know there are birds out there in shelters looking for homes, but I cannot find any of them near me either. The closest one is 3 hours away.

If you know of anyone who is a breeder or needing rehoming please contact me.

How about a little bit about yourself, like do you have any previous bird experience, especially LARGE bird experience. Macaws are in a world of their own and it takes an experienced person to care for them especially if you try to adopt a fully grown bird from a rescue shelter, they come with their own bag of issues that you would have to overcome.

But if you want a breeder and don't mind paying the $125.00 shipping cost, check out www.tropicalparrotise.com Amanda doesn't have any macaws available yet, but she might be able to tell you when she will be expecting babies.

Also, if you go onto Ebay classifieds, you will find numerous breeders for Macaws either in your area or within a state or two away. You can either make an over night drive and pick one up or some offer shipping.

Ebay classifieds. I cheak it everyday. There always amazons macaws keets doves peacock and more lol.
But first I'd have to ask if you ever had experience with any birds let alone a large species.
They can be handful under inexpericed owners.

You and me both, that's my second stop after checking in here every morning. hahahahahaha!

I also check ebay, and also craigslist. Both kinda make me sad. :( But yet I can't stop checking.

If your thinking of getting a bird, distance should not be the issue. I have a breeder in VA, the website is mountainridgeaviary.com , the breeder's name is Jeanette. She will also fly her birds to your State to pick up at the airport at your expence. Before getting a Macaw, you have to think about the size of the Macaw you can care for. Is there an Aviary Vet close to you. Do you know enough about their diet, the dos and don't in raising a Macaw. If you answered no to any of these questions, I would do your homework first and really learn about them and their needs. They can be a hand full and need no less then 3-4 hours outside the cage and interact with you. They are very social animals and thrive being close and bonded to their owners.
You must have a very large cage for them so room in the home is needed.
Do you have a Macaw spieces in mind. If you are a first time Macaw owner and want to jump right in with a large Macaw, I would advise you on the Green Wing or Blue and Gold, and blue throat Macaw. There are many smaller Macaws to out there that maybe better for you. Let us know on what you decide. Joe
