Parrots
Blue fronted amazon, lutin cockatiel, agapornis fischer...
This Sunday I went to a zoo in Holland where most parrots are rescued, they were abandoned or abused...
I could touch some of them and take them on me.

I saw an umbrella cockatoo, they told me she is about 30y/o, she is the sweetest bird I ever met. Her feathers were a bit messy, her wings too short (I think) and some of the other birds were biting her...
Iā€™ve been like 1hour with her, then left her and walked away. When I was almost at the exit of the big cage I turned around and saw her following me, that made me stay 1h30 more in there!!!

She made me so sad, she just wanted to cuddle, and sheā€™s quite scared of humans.
One of the zoo keepers told me that she gets aggressive cause sheā€™s scared of hands and thatā€™s why sheā€™s always in a cage and that it was so weird that she was so good with me (there are so many parrots in this zoo that are free, so you can touch them everywhere, but some are closed). So I felt so bad for her cause I had the feeling she was not being given enough love...
Iā€™ll probably go back this weekend and Iā€™ll ask if thereā€™s any way I can help her, we will see what will happen.

Iā€™ll tell you something about it!
Gonna add some pics of her, this pics ate me with her, out of the cage so I could sit in a bench, we went back in later.

Awww.
Love it!
Beautiful!
Cockatoos can be soooo affectionate!
They melt my heart.

Hope you can spend more time with her.
Do they adopt parrots out to a good home and a good human-match?

I donā€™t know, I sent an email asking for some info.
Cause I really donā€™t want to leave her there. She had some blood under the head feathers so I suppose itā€™s cause they bit her. It melts my heart :/

Thank you for giving her some love...................... I'm sure it was a moment of sunshine for her. Oh, and if you could adopt her....................... my wife will put you on her hero list.

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!

Cute! They all want to cuddle....that's where they "getcha' '"--- They are SUPER hormonal birds, so cuddles are the last thing they need, even though they are all they want. They can be sweet...I love them... I want to save them all...but they are SO MUCH WORK (hence the re-home rate). I feel like people have a hard time imagining that any animal could be so needy, but it is a bigger commitment than a marriage in my mind...
I want to reiterate, you CANNOT CUDDLE a cockatoo. You CANNOT!!! They want to be cuddled, but that is sex to them and in time, the consequences of doing so show...Seriously...they want to be touched all over, and they will act like the sweetest babies..but then bite everyone you know if you do...or scream/pluck etc. Head-petting only is a giant must.
Imagine a crying baby who only wants to be held (knowing that they would calm down if you could just pick them up-- or better yet, a kid who can turn on the charm who just begs you for a few hugs)....now imagine that picking up that baby/child would fundamentally change them in the long run...Cockatoos and cuddles....cockatoos and cuddles are a bad combination.

When I say cuddling I mean head scratches. I know that we should not touch their back or wings :)

Wow, that is an awesome bird!

People always get so excited when a dog or cat likes them, but nothing compares to winning over a parrot! :yellow2: Lucky you!
