I've had my red crowned amazon a little over a month now, his name is Buddy. Today I went to my cousin's house to pick her up and take her to an appointment. Look at who I met, a gorgeous little sun conure. She said he is her grandson's and he bites. As you can see in less than 60 seconds we were best buddies, and in fact they named him Buddy, lol. My husband said he looks like orange juice so we've nicknamed him OJ.

Buddy is gorgeous! Maybe after you showed them how sweet he can be that will help them with him:)

What a cutie!!!
Not that it matters, but are you sure that isn't a Jenday? That's an awful lot of green. ;)
Either way, gorgeous bird. Glad to see you made a friend. OJ sounds great hehe. :)

Not a jenday, but I was thinking a hybrid! Little Buddy looks to have the face of a sun but the body of a jenday.

Whatever he is, he's cute! :D

They said they got him at Petco. I've seen sun conures there and saw green tails but didn't pay a lot of attention to them because I'd want to take them home. He's very well mannered. I showed the kids how to be confident with him. They don't want to get bit. When I left they had him out and were working with him.

My husband said he has a scary beak. I told him he's afraid of all beaks lol.

That sure does look like a Jenday. And tell your husband their beaks aren't bad, better than my Hahns.

I've seen birds mislabeled plenty of times at pet stores like that! Do you know how old he is?

Hey MonicaMC, you are right! I went to Petco today to find a table top perch and stopped by the birds. Little Buddy is a hybrid of a sun conure and jendy. The had one there and the color variations matched with a lot of green. I learned something new, thanks!

Welcome! :)

Although I have seen quite a lot of variations within sundays! Some look more like jendays with a sun face, while others look more like suns with a jenday stomach and speckling of green through the wings. PinkBirdy here on this forum has a sunday that looks more sun than jenday.

As chicks though, suns, jendays and sundays can look a lot alike if you don't know the subtle differences between the two species and hybrid thereof!

As for beaks, I tried to get my husband to interact with Buddy up close and he freaked, focusing on his beak. Hmmmmm... I'm still analyzing and working on this piece.

Indeed. Last time I saw a sun conure at one of the big pet stores it was simply labeled "fancy conure." They didn't even bother trying to guess.
