April - 32 year old Panama Amazon!
Zuri - 3 year old Congo African grey
George - 4 year old Panama Amazon
We have liquid bird vitamins on hand for the tortoises. Should I be giving this to April and Ollie as well (Amazon and Quaker)? I read that it doesn't do much good because you can't regulate how much they get and it turns the water nasty quicker. Any thoughts?

Thanks, I was figuring if we feed them a good diet with lots of fresh stuff the vitamins shouldn't be needed.

There is no reason to supplement the diet of a healthy bird unless vet directed. The best nourishment comes from good foods.

My vet wanted Pete on vitamins for 3 months, but he was malnourished from 28 years of seeds and unhealthy human foods. And she sold me a powdered one that went on the soft foods. So yes, unless the vet wants the bird on them, I wouldn't use any.

I would of course have the vet do an exam first and give their recommendations. Rome was just slightly malnourished and he advised against it. He said that its not really necessary, can do more harm than good and that sometimes the birds wont drink the water because of the different flavor or color (then you have an entirely different problem on your hands). His suggestion to me was to just put her on a good quality pellet. Because of her liver when I first got her he wanted her on 90% pellet and 10% veggies/fruits/nuts/pasta. Now that her liver enzymes are normal I'm allowed 80% pellet and 20% other and of course another re-check to make sure shes doing well with it.
