I'm a new member here and this will be my second post ever, but I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with light up toys for parrots? I sort of stumbled onto it by accident. One of my cats had left an impact-lit ball on the floor where my Quaker was hopping around and it got kicked and he was FASCINATED. Pretty much anywhere he is around the room, or on the bed for playtime, he'll come waddling over quickly if I tap that ball and get the lights flashing, so I had a brilliant idea of finding some parrot friendly toys that light up. Well, I thought it was brilliant until I realized they don't seem to exist! I can't find one for the life of me! Google searches turn up generic bird toys and pins that light up and look like parrots. I've found a couple light up jewelry pieces and whatnot, but all generic vendors that probably have nickel or zinc in the metals. Searches including the word "plastic" turn up light-up collar dangles for pets running around at night, which COULD be an option, but he likes the blinking lights and near as I can tell they're all solid lights, and most of them seem fairly cheap plastics/rubbers that I'd be worried about him getting into the tiny bits inside.

If anyone could point me in the right direction to a light up, bird friendly (hopefully reasonably priced) toy, I would be forever in your debt!

Just a note that I forgot to mention; the ball was kicked by my own foot, he himself does not seem to have the knack or strength to light it up himself, plus the ball is a little big for him to really enjoy playing with it. Hence the search for a more parrot friendly version!

Highly specialized toys for cats and dogs and possible children can be a search nightmare. You have ID'd the biggest concerns regarding this kind of toy. They would be dangerous if broken as a result of the tiny bits, plus the light source and batteries.

Sorry, but I do not have any leads. But, it is likely a toy best used with your oversight and involvement.

I saw a cat laser, the chase the dot kind, and wondered if my birds might like it. I can just imagine Daytona running after it. Anyone with experience here?

Anything with a light (or sound) has a battery and I don't even want to think about what would happen if a parrot got hold of a button battery.

Hello, and welcome!

Yeah, agreeing with above... lights, toys, batteries... anything potentially toxic, shocking or otherwise dangerous scares me! Parrots are so famous for destroying things, and in fact it's part of their fun, so... yeah.

A laser-light? I might try it. But take care not to tempt a bird to fly into a wall or other surfaces! Am I the Queen of Paranoia, or what? An active imagination can really help keep birds safe, though!

Good for you, for reaching out.
