Letting macaw out of cage

I just got my green winged macaw about 3-4 days ago, he is eating from my hand through the cage bars and hasnt offered to bite me on purpose once yet.

When should I let him out of the cage, and HOW should I go about doing this, I know he hates being cooped up in that cage almost as much as I hate seeing him being cooped up..

Any advise I would be greatful for.

we left our guy in for about a week~ not sure if that was good or bad, but that's what we did....he loves being out, but in the beginning it was hard to get him back in! I found out accidently (when we lost power) that no lights= back in the cage~ not sure if it would work for you...now I just tell him to go in and he gets a special treat and goes in no problem.

If i had higher ceilings i would let him on top, but a lot of people dont recommend it, we also have a playstand and sometimes i will roll it next to his cages and he just goes back and forth~ good luck!

I let my Nanday out for the first time an hour after she got here, lol! But, she didn't go through the normal bird things of being scared of a new home and owner. She came in like she had lived here her whole life.

My Blue Crown was scared and a shy girl. She was a newly weaned baby and had a Nanday yelling at her. It was a few days before I let her out the first time.

It took my Yellow Crown 2 days before he decided to start making friends with me. I left him in another 2 days to work on our tenuous bond.

It would probably depend on your level on confidence...

I have taken in a few birds, who the owners said were aggressive, but I could pick them up straight away, and they never bit me to this day...

If you think your bird will bite, it probably will!
