1 Hyacinth Macaw and 2 Parrotlets
Hi All

I know that much has been posted on leg bands and what they mean. I am trying to track the history/orgin of my bird, mostly to determine an accurate age. I have the most amazing Hyacinth Macaw who we completely adore. I was told she was 15 years old. Her closed leg band says GASBE 060 and nothing else. I am guessing G or GA is Georgia. There is no space between the GA and the SBE or any other numbers. I have tried to research where who this breeder maybe but have not had any luck.

Anyone with any information, this would be GREATLY appreciated...
Thanks

is there turn sideways on the ban..if the numbers on the ban are turn sideways thats the year they were born in. if not then its probably but the ban for the breeder id

maybe ask your vet? - our vet was able to tell us what breeder the initials stand for, and we had it confirmed by a breeder we go to regularly (he sells lots of toys etc too :) ) so we managed to track down the Bandit's breeder and got in contact with him.

Bandit has an open ring - and as it turned out according to details on the ring, it was a sexing ring, for a bird he surgically sexed in 1999! so dispite the lady we bought her of saying she was 9 months old at the time, she would in fact be 13. our local breeder told us that open rings tend to be "recycled" (aka: re-used to get birds imported...) in the bird world, and our vet confirmed that it is extremely unlikely bandit is 13, based on several physical examinations - though we will never know 100% certain, but i'm going by my vet's experience.

I really wish there was a birdlover/techie nerd out there somewhere who could make a search engine for legbands and is reading this now!! :)

A vet can ususally look it up, as well as breeders. The sideways number is their birth year if listed.

I was told that occasionally they have 'leftover bands' and will use them (like you could have a band that says 04 which should be a 2004 baby but could be a 2005 baby but still using the old band). And i do think it is the number printed sideways. My canary has 06 on his and that is when i got him as a young bird, so it definitely was his year of birth.
Gilbert has a band but i don't think it has his year (i know he was just born in July though). It does have the breeder initials and a number not corresponding to age. I happened to glance at it and saw IAP on it and i got him from In a Pickle.

I found a name... but I don't know if it's the right name...

James Stowe

Also found this number... which is a Georgia number. (put into "code")

Seven06-5Four6-9Eight4Seven

Appears he's no longer breeding but he may have records... so its worth a shot! And it's an L&M Leg Band as per the info I stumbled across.

You're doing better than I am. I went online to AACC, Aviary Avicultural Advancement Council of Canada, and asked them about my bird's band. They have records of every registered band in Canada. I contacted them, but apparently when the last record keeper retired there was a fire and there are no records of birds before 2008! Comforting, right?
