Jenday Conure
My husband and I recently purchased the most amazing Jenday Conure and we are feeling really guilty about having to leave him home alone all day while we are at work! He ONLY wants to be on me or my husbands shoulders when we are home so I know he is so lonely during the day. I leave the tv on and we have two dogs which may help some but any other suggestions would be welcome. I have to remind myself that people all over the world work AND have birds! LOL

Thank you,
Rudy's Mommy :orange:

Hi Rudy's Mommy
If we could all stay at home with our birds all day, the world would probably come to a stand still. LoL
How old is your Jenday Conure? :orange:
When I go out on deliveries, I play a cd, which I made for my AG Mishka.
I began making the cd's when she started learning to talk. As she learned new words, the cd collection grew and grew.

A suggestion : Make a cd for the bird, using your voices.
Say words which he is familiar with. Add some music.
When off to work, play and press repeat.
This makes them feel someone is nearby, and they are leaning all the time.
Good luck
Take care

I know some people that take their bird to work with them. Someone did that where I work and another person had a severe allergy attach so birdie does not go to work anymore. Antionette seems to have the better solutions.

Its just me and Auggie here, and I leave for work every day.

Yes, he's quite happy to see me when I get home, but during breaks when I spend most of every day with him it gets to be too much for both of us.

They need their alone time during the day too. They may prefer to have that be less that an 8 hour shift, but if you were at home all day every day this would likely lead to problems as well.

So take some ideas from Antoinette, they're all great. I'd leave on animal planet while I was gone but I no longer have cable, so I'm looking for an alternative. Other than that make sure the time you do have together is quality time.

I suppose I also have Auggie by a window and we live next to a wooded area with lots of critters around, so he watches all of that.

I actually left a link on one of my topics, you can find it on the Active Forums page, titled Calming Bird Noises. It's basically a youtube link with wild parrots doing what wild parrots do best! making noises haha. I have a full day of class from 9-7 on certain days, so what I do instead, is that I found some songs off of iTunes all of jungle nature sounds, and even parakeets and a macaw making noises. Before I used the TV for noise, or the radio, but when I found these nature sounds, I just had to try them on my bird. Turns out that he loves them!! Sometimes he will fall asleep, and make noises back to the birds. He never screams, and never tries to fly off his perches. You can test it out before buying any songs... here is a link from youtube for some nature sounds, like jungles...

I used to leave the tv on whenever we left the house for whatever reason, until I realized the greys were picking up some words and phrases that I really don't want them to say, soooooo, now I still leave the tv on but it's on a soft rock station. They do just fine and are glad to see us when we get home. :green1:

Ham and Mak have their own radio ... it's either classic rock or country for them. But, now that I am staying home with the baby, they aren't alone nearly as long as they used to be. Used to be that they may had have to spend their entire day in their cages (NOT the norm, but it did happen on occasion) ... now, they only go into their cages when I have to run out on a errand ... life has gotten better for them.
