this is a first for me, usually all my birds are paired up, but I haven't been able to find a mate for Ruby, my beautiful Lutino.
She' been very ho--y the past few weeks.
Today she laid her first egg on the bottom of the cage.
I feel so badly for her, no nest, just sitting there, guarding this egg that is no where near fertile.
It will be a challenge to change the paper now, any suggestions to do this with the least amount of stress??

Get a wide mouth cereal/soup/salad bowl, tear up some newspaper, put it in her cage, put the egg in it & when you need to change the papers, do it after dark, turn the light off, lift up the dish, quickly slide old papers out & new ones in.....be sure to gently talk to her all the time you're doing it & she should not get too upset after the first time or two.....

Good luck.....

good idea, thanks.
we gave her a wicker basket about her size, and put the egg in it, all she did was get furious with the basket, chewing it like crazy, like she was really angry with it.
we removed it, now she doesn't bother with the egg.....hens....!

Better be careful, someone might consider that a sexist remark and one of our Super Moderators might have to intervene ! ! !
