Yellowsided Green Cheek Conure~ Baby/Blue Front Amazon~ Cookie/Timneh African Grey~ Dezi/Normal Green Cheek Conure~Petri
So on Friday I am getting a green cheek conure, and I was wondering what other types of birds can live with a green cheek conure. And I know the risks but I am willing to take all the steps to successfully and slowly introduce more species. I am experienced with birds and know the attitudes and common problems with most of the more common species. I am thinking about in total getting a GCC, a male Cockatiel, 2 female budgies, and a breeding pair of zebra finches (not all those species at once but over say a one year period.) and I plan on having them all in one cage, I have a large enough cage for each to have its own space (4'L by 3'W by 6'H) and I have multiple perches and food dishes so there is no fighting over food and water sources. Please let me know what you think about if in the future I could possibly have all these species together without trouble if I take the time and effort to acclimate each of them together successfully. Thanks- Gage

Can't offer any hands-on experience but do have a friend whose husband through her out of their house & she was forced to cage her green cheek and 4 'tiels together because of where she had to move to.....she came home from work to find two of the 'tiels with their feet chewed off & had to have them put down.....she never knew if her GCC did it, but the vet thought so.....

Although some members around here may cage different species together, I'm not sure I would be inclined to cage green cheeks, 'tiels, budgies & finches together like you're thinking about doing ! ! !

Good luck.....

Yeah but I'm assuming if she was kicked out she would have brought them in sort of a smaller cage she could travel easily with not a large aviary/flight cage like mine.

We can all hypothesize what she could have or should have done.....she lived a couple of hundred miles away when all of this happened.....and.....I don't think any of the rest of us have experienced her situation, so doubt any others could offer credible information.....I just offered a possible scenario of caging different species together.....that was your question wasn't it ? ? ?

I still don't think I would try your homogenization.....good luck.....

If they end up not getting along I'll just have to keep them in separate cages and just let them socialize during playtime

Or I might just get multiple green cheek conures !

Hmmm...sorry, but it sounds like the chances of those birds living together in one big cage would be slim to none. I wouldn't attempt it. There is no guarantee that any 2 birds WILL get along. You just don't know until after you get them. Now, a couple of green cheeks might be a better bet, but even then, if it were me, I would try to get them at the same time and make sure they are already living together. Of course then you have to worry about male and female breeding. Just my opinion...

It all depends on individual birds! Right now I have gcc, lovebird, 2 budgies, cockatiel and IRN. All hang out together cage free during the day. The biggest love is between my gcc and one of the budgies - they are inseparable (both male, btw). :D

Very scary, dangerous idea. Sharing a play gym is one thing, being caged together is entirely another, take it from someone who has had birds lose body parts to other birds. If you have the money to own that many birds, you have the money for them to have their own cages. Even housing GCCs togehter with tiels is not advisable due to the difference in temperament, and it is never a good idea to house hookbills with non hookbills.

Agreed with SilverSage post above. So Gage, what happened to wanting these species? Looks like from your recent posts you've changed your mind after discovering your fascination with larger species...

Not to be too harsh, but realisitically from what I've observed, your questions on this forum lead me to believe that you 'probably should' just work on bonding with and training your GCC, and when that seems under control, you can add a Cockatiel and train, love, and care for both your babies. That is my opinion :)

Oh I didn't realize you want to house them together in one cage - that's a bad idea. Mine (except a cage free conure) have all their own cages and even one spare just to chill during the day.

Well I have decided to keep my GCC and in a year or two get an African grey. Instead of getting a lot of birds that I've always kind of wanted I decided to just have two birds, but bond with them and train them and make they happy and loyal pets. So I guess I've decided quality rather than quantity. :)

Do you really want to run the risk of some of your birds getting hurt? If you feel the need to do this, you might try a long socialization process where they are all out in one area together while watching them closely for fights. If they all get along, try introducing one bird into the cage at a time to see if anyone gets hurt. If someone does, then you know for sure you can't do that in good conscience. These little creatures look to you for their very lives, and their lives matter just as much as any other pet you'd love. Please take care to keep them from getting hurt. Just go slow and have patience with this process so they all stay safe.
