Presently have six Greenwing Macaw (17 yo), Red Fronted Macaw (12 yo), Red Lored Amazon (17 y.o.), Lilac Crowned Amazon (about 43 y.o.) and a Congo African Grey (11 y.o.)
Panama Amazon (1 Y.O.)
This bird has brought so much life and joy to this house...

She is as playful and loving as they come. I can get her wound up to the point of Amazon overload, and she doesn't break the skin...

Imagine beak wrestling with an amazon nose to beak. I can do that with this bird. In fact, playing with her makes me wonder if a lot of those "aggressive amazon" stories are really nothing more than an amazon who wants to play rough and just doesn't have any bite pressure boundaries...

SHE'S EVERY BIT AS MUSHY AS ANY OF MY MACAWS...

And Sallybird is STILL jealous. She hangs out with Tusk and Lila all day... but really, she self entertains well. She likes people just as much... gets along with the other birds.

I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHY SOMEONE GAVE HER UP, BUT SHE HAS BEEN A GOD SEND!!! ESPECIALLY AFTER LOSING MAGGIE... She brought some of that birdie play and laughter back. And yeah, she climbs stairs and seeks us out just like Maggie did.

One odd thing though, she prefers to stay home now. She started out an out and about constant companion bird, and now she's more of a home body. "It's cool. Got my toys. Got my food. Got my buddies. I'm fine..." I GUESS SHE'S JUST HAPPY HERE, EH?!

Her favorite toys are still fingers. Probably always will be...

Awww, Kiwi sounds adorable. I've never had the fortune to meet an Amazon! The way you describe her makes her sound like a caique?! A little clown enjoying fun & games with her humans. Just imagining her climbing the stairs to come find you is sooooooo cute - what a sweetie!

She does actually play on her back quite a bit, like a caique or a macaw... She talks up a storm too!

Mark I love your Amazon stories. It has helped me so much to know what to expect with Millie. Millie is also very talkative, has an opinion on everything and has to be involved. She can play on her own but loves to hang with us. Glad to see you back and an update.

Mark , my Salty ( an Amazon, too) is also a back player - sometimes I think he is part caique. Good to see you active again.

Mark, it's great to hear an update from you and your flock! Thanks for the smiles! I'm thrilled that Kiwi found you when she did, sounds like she joined your flock at the perfect moment.

Gotta love those Amazons! :D

I'm taking Amy to her doc in a few hours for a wellness check, and see if she is healthy enough to learn to fly..after watching so many free flight video's..well...that's my goal.

Its wonderful Mark, that Kiwi is bring so much happiness to you, your family, and flock.
Thanks for the update..awesome to see you posting again..you know how we are! PICTURES! WE NEED PICTURES!!

Question for you.I have had the larger (Hot Zons).Never the smaller ones.I know you have had both .Do you feel the smaller species is like the larger ones in temperament and personality?

My most bonded zon EVER was a hot 3 BFA...

Zons do the instant love, or instant hate thing.

The biggest difference, other than length of breeding season, is socialization and handling... (and knowing when not to.)

I've had or fostered I don't know 8-ish fosters. Had four other permanent residents. Rehabbed so many I lost count...

These birds just don't get handled or interacted with the way they should be, then they get cage bound and territorial. Then they bite... Simple as that.
