I was sharing my lunch (well, the green beans and potatoes) with Kiwi, and I got up to get more water. Well he got down off his perch and grabbed a small onion ring. I tried to pull it away, but the crunchy part came off leaving the onion in his beak. Before I could get it away, he swallowed the whole thing, kind of like how a pelican swallows a fish! I know parrots shouldn't have onions, but I'm not sure just how toxic they are.... Will he be ok? Is there anything I should do?

I'm pretty sure he will be fine with just a tiny piece ingested.

I agree, a small amount is ok. He should be ok.

I agree with above postings, a small amount shouldn't bother him too bad.

I'll be honest here...I know a woman who's bird died from eating a couple pieces of onion.

It's better if he ate cooked onion than raw onion, although birds shouldn't be eating onions, period.

He may be fine with a small amount but still a good idea to keep a *very* close watch on him and have a vet, emergency vet and/or an animal poison control hotline number nearby just to be on the safe side.

It's been a couple of days now, how is Kiwi?
