Last nite on our way home from camp Kia said "pretty bird"!! she's said 3 times! I was surprised because I usually only hear her like mumbling. I can never make out what she's saying. Anyway just wanted to share! :D

She's just under a year old Giosmom. When are you getting your goffin? They are great birds! She's definately my baby! Very cuddly, but can entertain herself which is VERY important.

So true!! Sugar is quite content the majority of her day, playing in her cage (and rather quietly at that) and really only wants a bit of attention first thing in the morning and then at the unwinding of the day. Yet her previous owners said she screamed all the time, which I find impossible to believe given that she hasn't done anything like that in the weeks that we've had her.

I don't know Sugar's hatchdate :( but she's right around a year. Do you think they get better at talking as they age? Are you Kia's only home?

I think it depends on the bird. Ive read that goffins arent big talkers, then Ive read that some people have goffins that are big talkers. Kia is quiet most of the day too. She's not a big screamer at all so when she does scream I think it's cute. I am her only home, thank god because I couldnt imagine 2 Paco's around here lol. I got her from my local pet store. I bought her when she was still being hand fed so I used to go to the pet store several times a week to visit her. I dont know if that made a difference on her behavioral, but she is such a good bird. Dont get me wrong she's like a toddler getting into things at times, but she's a real sweetheart.

Sugar is the same. Not a big "talker", often quiet, must chew and get in to everything, sometimes demanding like a toddler. The longest she's ever gone with a true screaming fit is about 20 minutes, and even that wasn't horrible. We can tell she's trying to talk, but the words are often so garbled that we can't understand her. She's around 1, and we're already her second (and FOREVER) home. We got her from a local store that's really good (they just need more space) and takes birds on consignment (rehoming). So we put a deposit down and went to visit her several times a week, so that she could be somewhat familiar with us by the time we brought her home. I did the same thing with Loki, and he actually was a Petco bird! (we're also his second home, but that's a long long story). We took roughly 6 weeks with both birds, visiting them, before bringing either one home.

Sounds like Sugar & Loki are lucky to have found you!

Congrats!!! That is so exciting:) My boys have been working on a garbled "pretty bird" but seem to have given up on it since they learned to wolf whistle. All they want to do is whistle now.

He's on 3 feedings a day...so looking at August 1st. We can't wait! Wow that's so cool that he spoke his first few words....I'm sure the words will just keep coming now! Congrats !

Sugar isn't screaming because she has someone that loves her and cares
properly for her :).

Oh that is so cool , her first words :).
Congratulations !
My Goffin isn't a big screamer either . He does his "crazy bird" in the am/ pm
thats it , and I too , think its adorable :).
He is the most cuddliest , sweetest thing , I love him to pieces :)
I am his first and last Mommy ,lolol.
Get ready to hear more for Kia , the sky's the limit !

I've also noticed that certain screams, it's the "I'm outta food and you better give me more!" scream. Sugar is a picky eater, if her pellets have been in there too long, she will chuck them and then ask for more pellets, lol. So we only give her a small amount at a time, which explains why we'll start hearing a scream that's not quite her "give me attention" scream and not her "I'm happy to be alive/it's morning/it's evening" antics. Shockingly, you give her food and she clams up ;)

Lesa - I think it's more that I'm lucky to have found Loki and Sugar. And have a very understanding husband ;) Luvmytoo - You're probably right! Some of Sugar's reactions to things, really make us question her previous owners :(
