Well Kenickie came home last weekend and we have been getting to know each other.....he's just shy of 4 months and is an absolute sweetheart! I have never met a hahns macaw in person before so just knew the info that I read plus watched videos....

I have a sun conure named rizo and she's a doll but a typical conure so nippyness doesn't bother me....Kenickie is very gentle so far and a completely different coos etc when he gets his scritches....

I was surprised by his size as he's definitely bigger then rizo ( I expected a little bigger but yep he's bigger lol) which is what I wanted.....so when I picked him up at the airport I was surprised and nervous .....hoping I would be okay with him and not to intimidated.....I know this sounds silly but I had never had a chance to hold anything bigger then a Senegal before Kenickie.....well that's not entirely true when we were away on holidays in puerto rico about a month ago I got to hold a green wing macaw, a blue and gold macaw, and a cockatoo for about 5 minutes....anyways Kenickie and I are currently bonding....he is going to the vet next week for his wellness checkup ( he came a week earlier then we expected) weather permitting....

I have a question I know with the bigger birds you shouldn't allow them on your shoulder....does that go for a hahns macaw too? Kenickie seems to really like the shoulder and responds immediately as soon as I ask him to step up but I don't want to continue this if I shouldn't be....is there anything else I should be working on him with initially? I was thinking clicker training.....anything else?

Even little birds like senegals shouldn't be on your shoulder until you completely trust them. Imagine that needle beak in your cheek or eye.

Yes I actually know that especially since My daughter has a Senegal that I would never allow on my shoulders never ever ever lol ..... And yes as you can see in the pic (if I attached it properly it) I have Kenickie on my shoulder...that's because Maggie the Senegal has taught me by learning the hard way not to allow her on my shoulder and I am under the false impression that my precious Kenickie would never do that lol :22:

Thanks....we got our sun conure last summer and my husband informed me that her name was rizo lol he names all of our birds and one night a few weeks later I told him that my next baby would have to be Kenickie so we would have a rizo and Kenickie ( from the movie grease lol)....when the breeder informed us that our baby hahns was a boy he was immediately named Kenickie lol...we call them our grease birds just need leather jackets for them now:D

That is so cute!! Hmmm, now where to find those jackets...
