Well, ok, it wasn't a party for him, specifically. It was an industry specific gathering of friends/colleagues/customers. I had decided early on that if he seemed to be getting too stressed out I'd put him in his room and shut the door.
He was nervous at first. I was going to keep him on his play gym the entire time because I didn't want him on me knowing it would be a new and stressful situation and knowing I'd be the one to get bitten should he get upset or freaked out. But that plan lasted all of the time it took for our 3rd guest to arrive. The first two are dear friends of ours and they've met Kazi several times so he was fine sitting on his t-stand or gym. The third guest arrived with her small child and her dog both of which freaked Kazi out sufficiently so he decided he was going to climb down on the floor and come over to me. Uh no, no floor time with strange dog(s) about (other people were bringing their dogs too - we have a gigantic back yard) so I had him step up and he went right up to my shoulder and would. not. budge. Not once, not the entire rest of the night. Not even to step off to 'go poop'. So I got pooped on several times which horrified a few of my guests until they learned it doesn't stink one bit.
But he behaved himself beautifully. I got one nip on the back of the neck when my husband got too close and Kazi lost his head for a second, but it never bled, just left a little welt. He was perfectly fine with people talking to him and feeding him bits of his favorite treats. Everyone was very respectful and didn't reach out for him except for one fellow amazon person who wasn't afraid. But he still wasn't having any of that and warned her away with a lunge. So we stuck with feeding him tasty treats, which he loved. He even relaxed enough to say hello to most everyone there. His ability to speak delighted my friend's 5 year old and at one point he said to his mom, "I'd like to have words with that parrot." My husband about died laughing and said, "You and me both, kid! I have a lot of words I'd like to have with that parrot." Hilarious.
We ended up with about twice as many people as I'd expected, and our house is rather small, so for a few hours it was a bit like being in a sardine can, but even then, Kazi was perfectly fine as I dodged past guests and mingled and played hostess. I was very proud of him!
Here's a pic of me with the star of the party. I believe someone was approaching with something delicious or alarming. I can't remember which, but that posture is the same for either
