Just a friendly reminder about mister bottles

A few years back, someone posted about their parrot becoming seriously ill and dying (if I remember correctly) from mold in a mister bottle. Ever since, I've been extremely diligent about inspecting ours and leaving it disassembled to dry out completely after each use and occasionally flushing with vinegar (then clean water several times to wash out all the vinegar, of course). Not sure if it's mold or not, but I noticed something this morning 'growing' in the "tube" part that looks kinda slimy and gross. Since I cannot get in it to clean and sanitize that kind of thing properly, we will be recycling this bottle and ordering a new one. Just thought now would be a good time to offer up a friend reminder for everyone else to inspect your bottles as well

I buy mister bottles from the dollar store, wash thoroughly, and periodically discard via the recycling bin when they look dodgy.

The trick with the spray/mister is to remove them from the bottle, turn them upside down with the tube up into the air and pump the handle until completely empty!

We use multiple units letting the odd ones out dry completely out over a week or more.

I am in contact with the manufacturer of a brand of misters with interchangeable heads (would be nice to not have to have multiple bottles, just a couple pump parts) that may possibly be able to be disassembled a few times to be sanitized before the gaskets wear out. Will update when I find out more!
