Juniper - Budgie
Hey everyone! My name is Josh, and I own a Budgerigar named Juniper. Juniper is a female, Fullbody Greywing at about 3 years old! She's a beautiful bird and super energetic. I keep her fully flighted and she sure does love it. Juniper will fly all around the house, switching from shoulder to shoulder and giving kisses to anyone who's around!

Here's a little bit about the origin of Juniper's name. I needed to remove a large juniper bush while we were renovating our new house a few years back. I made a bargain with my mother for her approval to get a new bird if I got take the bush out. It was a fairly large bush, so she agreed in disbelief that I would ever actually do it. Three hours later I brought the trunk to the backyard where the rest of my family was and the rest is history.

We got Juniper from a private aviary out here in Rhode Island. She was raised very well and I'm happy to say that she lives a wonderful life. I'm excited to share my stories here and meet everyone, this seems like a great community!

Welcome. Great story! Juniper is beautiful :). Is she an English? I love budgies myself. I'd love another one, I'm hooked on the funny cute little guys.

I love the full body greywings! I'd love to see pics of her back too!

She's an American... Her new feathers just came in, I'll take some new pictures and try to get her wings as well. Juniper sure is a pretty bird, especially as an adult now. Of course, her cere isn't the spunky blue it used to be heheh.

Hello Josh and Juniper! Welcome to the forum! What a beautiful blue budgie! Looking forward to hearing more about her.

Thanks! She's a very vocal bird as well. I've read a lot about female budgies not being able to vocalize human words as well as males, but she really does hold her own!

Welcome to the forums! Juniper is lovely :)

I very nearly named my green cheek Juniper! I decided to go with Genevieve instead, which is pretty much just the French given version of Juniper. I still call her Junebug :D

I have three budgies, but they weren't hand tamed when I got them, and they prefer the company of each other so I don't bother them too much.

I'd also really love to see more pictures of Juniper.

I have a mauve budgie, an opal greywing... And I haven't figured out what my third is. She looks like a perfect mix between the first two.

I hope you enjoy your time here on the forums. Everyone is so helpful and kind :)

She says "Juniper" "Come over here!" "Do it again" and she's starting to catch onto "Pretty bird!"

"Come over here" is a result of me saying just that when I want her to fly from the cage to my shoulder. "Do it again" is a funny story... About a year back, Juniper would flip over her perch. The first time I saw her do it I said "do it again" because, well, I wanted her to do it again! Haha, so she just associated it with that trick. Unfortunately, she doesn't do the trick anymore. When I went to university, I wasn't able to keep up with it. I commute now, so I have a bit more time! I'm trying to bring it back now :)

Wow! If you can ever get that on a recording we'd love to hear it. Seems like the Budgies that do learn to talk in our language are bonded to humans.

Hey Britt, your budgies sound super cute! :D

I often switch between calling her Juniper or June.

For most of the time I've had her, I thought she was a he! She had a blue cere into some of her adult life and then it turned brown. Right now it's dark brown and has a flaky texture, apparently common around this season.

But yes, I'm super excited to become part of this community! It's nice to have fellow bird-lovers to ask questions, share stories, or just chat!

I'll have to just set up my camera one day and film for a while to catch some of the phrases... I've been considering making a YouTube channel for Juniper, I plan on teaching her all sorts of tricks this summer and I make a lot of homemade toys and recipes!

That would be great! Also, sharing tricks, homemade toys, recipes, etc. are very much of interest to this community, and that would be a great opportunity to show everyone how much potential a budgie has and how intelligent they are.

Juniper is a very lucky little budgie!

Ha, I thought my girl Anzu was also a boy... She had the bright blue cere until a couple of months ago. She also mimics more than the others, which I find impressive because she's just over a year old. No actual words yet, but some pretty impressive sounds. She mimics my cockatiel very well, which has lead to some confusion for me until I figured out who was making the ruckus.

I'm pretty new to flock life still (just shy of two years), but it all started with my budgies. I think they're really under appreciated by the aviculture community in general. They really are amazing little creatures. It makes me really happy to see budgie owners who treat their guys with the same love and respect as others treat their larger birds.

Same here, and we have quite a few regulars here who have pampered budgies as well.

For me they were not a first bird. I had parrots many years before getting my first budgie. If I had only known about their wonderful personalities, I'd have gotten into them much sooner!

They really are quite incredible little birds. I know that someday I will expand my horizons and own more, larger birds. But I think having Juniper has given me a really good start in understanding how to properly care for birds.

Thank you for all the replies! I've been meaning to join some type of forum and I think I found a great fit :D
