Josie - blue and gold macaw
Josie just got moved into her new, bigger cage on Saturday and she seems happy in it, but can't seem to figure out how to stop falling in it. The bar spacing is a bit different and she has all new toys. She fell last night and now she has a bruise on her face. The attached pic shows the bruise. It will heal, correct? She doesn't seem to be acting any differently and she is eating/drinking like normal. What do you think?

Thank you.

It will heal.

Where in the cage is she falling from? A perch? If it's from the bars, what exactly is she trying to do when she slips and what is she slipping from? Is she trying to grasp something and missing it?

AAAWWWW - poor Josie. :( But yes, it will heal, it's just a bruise.

I'm also curious what she fell off.

Actually, she fell off the boing. She never had one before and she is extremely enthusiastic when she goes on it. I think she hit her face off the wooden toy on her way down. Thanks for the reassurances.

It will heal. Safira gives herself bruises and cuts occasionally when she falls.

The boing spacing can be customized to give her more room and a less dramatic decline. If its hard for her to hold onto, perhaps reshape it for her.

Ooch, poor baby :)

Like everyone said, it will heal :) it is probably still not used to moving around the new cage . In the mean time I would put stuff that she can easily grasp on if she falls. Keeping parrots are like keeping kids

Thank you for all the advice. I have tried reshaping it and she seems to think it is a birdie trampoline...she gets on it and just keeps bouncing until eventually she loses her grip and down she goes...screaming "oh no" all the way down...then she climbs back up and gets back on the boing telling it what a "bad girl" it is. It is comical, but scarey at the same time. I don't want her to get hurt. I may just take it out for a while, until she is used to everything else in the new cage.
