I'm so thrilled with this girl! She blossoms more daily.

I was talking to someone recently who was involved with Jojo's intake into rescue and she mentioned that Jojo had been accustomed to a harness at one point, and had been a go-everywhere, flight-trained shoulder bird with her first owner (who willed her to the second whom she also outlived).

With that info, I ordered an Aviator Harness and began introducing it. She didn't seem upset about the idea as I draped it over her back, petted her with it, etc., so today I put it on her for the first time- and immediately stepped into the backyard. She seems a little insecure but not really frightened. We'll continue with baby steps.

I'm excited to see her accepting the harness so well... our first rv camping trip of the season is just a few weeks away and this will make it much safer.

Some people have all the luck!!! :D

It is so wonderful that those who came before your did such a wonderful job of Socializing and engaging Jojo! Jojo is going to love the camping trip!

Enjoy!

FYI: Careful on being over-joyed on the harness - there are many members that are still fighting to get past step one!

Wow that is so cool! What size/kind/brand is that harness??
Even though Amy is clipped, and has been going outside...in the car...with me for many years, without incident, after much prodding from members,I have been SERIOUSLY thinking of getting her one.
I really have no idea if she'll groove on the idea or not,but if/when I DO start/try to train her for free flight,a harness is going to have to be a must.

It's an Aviator. I imagine her original owner used a figure 8 style, because that's about all that was available back then.

I really like the fit of the Aviator. You can see that a lot of thought went into the design. It fits below her crop rather than below her chin, so she's not irritated by wearing it after eating and it wouldn't prevent her from eating comfortably while wearing it. The way the leash section adjusts and slides makes it pretty easy to get over her wings and snugged up, and it slips around her "waist" so it reorients as she changes position. The lead kinda dangles to the side, so it's not in her way while perching, either.

I'm thrilled to find that her entire past hasn't been rough... it gives me great hope for her future.

We're on our way to the CAV this afternoon for her semi-annual work up. I'll be discussing outdoor activity and how to best exercise those wings (assuming we're cleared for more activity).

I'm happy she's doing so well with the harness so far, but I'm sure there are challenges ahead. I'm hoping she'll enjoy the immediate reward of time outside enough to accept the annoyance of being harnessed, but only time will tell.
