I am so excited. I am getting a Jenday Conure next week and he is beautiful. I have been visiting him in the pet store for the past 4 months and finally decided to buy him. I am reading and trying to purchase all the right things for him. My only concern is my dog Champ. Champ has been my baby and he is a wonderful pet boxer. I just worry how they will get along and how much should I trust him. Please give me any advise you have about dogs and birds.

At first and for a good long time after do not trust your Boxer while Buddy is out of his cage. Cutesy pie youtube videos notwithstanding, there are far more cases of dogs and cats killing or seriously maiming parrot companions then videos of them acting like Noahs Ark. Even after you trust your dog, always be present when both are in the same room. All it takes is a short instant. Nice looking Jenday BTW.

BINGO!!!
What Mr Wrench says. Your dog is a predator, birdie is prey. I know personally of same situation where together they appeared to be friends... then one day.. feathers everywhere, bird missing. (eaten). PLEASE be careful.

And let me add... and pardon me if u already know.. these are demanding birds, need a lot of attention, and very loud. Totally adorable and quick learners they need lots of 'out of cage' time.

thank you for the advise. I know now not to trust my dog around the bird.

SO cute. but they grow up to be pretty big, be prepared for that! he's tiny now....but soon he'll be twice the size of a typical green cheek
